Ever wonder how the stuff you use gets to you? The staff at DC Velocity magazine did. So they recently followed the distribution process step by step at Amway — from the time one of our distributors places a customer order, to the moment the truck carrying these packages pulls away from our Michigan campus.

Young students in the village of Reeds Ciawi-Bogor in Indonesia are blending learning with play, while they blend up some nutritious drinks. Amway staff and Independent Business Owners brought a supply of fruit, milk, protein powder and drink mixes to school for a fun day of experimenting with different tastes and textures. Like with any new food, the children were reluctant at first, but the flavors won them over, and brought milky smiles to their faces.

The announcement that Amway’s parent company reached sales of USD$10.9 billion in 2011 made headlines. And this week, Amway’s chairman and president shared the story behind the headlines with some major media. Amway President Doug DeVos explained during an interview on the FOX Business show Varney and Company that the “American dream” is alive and well not just in the U.S. but all over the world.

For Amway, 2011 was a year for the record books. We recorded our best month ever, with sales of USD$1 billion in June. Our durables category achieved over USD$1 billion in sales for the first time. And now, Alticor Inc., the parent company of Amway, has announced sales of USD$10.9 billion for 2011. That’s a 17 percent increase over 2010 sales of USD$9.2 billion.  And it’s the first time company sales have exceeded USD$10 billion.

Children in Japan who enter state protection following child abuse, or the death or incapacity of parents, traditionally have two paths: they enter a childcare facility or they are placed in a foster home. Childcare facilities care for 30,000 children, while foster parents can only host about 3,600. Both systems are overwhelmed and it is becoming increasingly difficult to give children recovering from traumatic situations the care they need.
