Most of the time, our efforts here at Amway are dedicated to creating the best business opportunity possible. However, we occasionally pause to reflect on another extremely important aspect – one we all do collectively – and that’s the Amway One By One Campaign for Children.

This important program, in which IBO’s take a very active role, takes us away from our offices, away from our day-to-day activities – and smack-dab into the hearts and minds of children who need our help.

In nearly every country where we do business around the world, Amway Independent Business Owners, employees and customers are creating positive change for children by establishing local partnerships to address kid-centric issues.

In short, we’re helping children live, learn, achieve and play.

In China we’ve helped kids get a better education.

In Japan we’ve supported sensory therapy programs to help blind and visually impaired children experience the wonders of life.

In Russia the Campaign has facilitated fully-equipped playrooms for kids during their hospital stays.

And here in North America we’ve built playgrounds, planted gardens with Boys and Girls Clubs, and volunteered our resources in many other ways to improve the lives of children.

So today, as is our tradition, we’re proud to share an update of our collective efforts.

Since 2003 the Amway One By One Campaign for Children has:

· Raised $168 million in contributions

· Volunteered 2.5 million hours

· Impacted 9.5 million children in 50 countries worldwide

Of course, numbers alone don’t tell the whole story. But we hope you agree:  it’s amazing what can happen when the common goal is simply making a difference – especially when it comes to children in need.

That’s when making a difference makes all the difference.

So on behalf of the employees at Amway North America, thanks for all you do to make this program such a success. Let’s strive to continue increasing our collective efforts in 2012 and beyond.

Good health: I can feel it in my bones

One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2012 is to do everything I can to maintain (or even increase) my bone strength and density.

I know, most people choose losing weight or something around that for a resolution, right?

But as a woman, I know that osteoporosis is a very real risk – so maintaining healthy bones will do a lot for my overall health and well-being.

Leave it to Amway’s exclusive new Nutrilite® Osteo Keeper™ and Cal Mag D to make it easy for me:

  • Cal Mag D gives me three sources of calcium, plus magnesium and vitamin D, for maximum calcium absorption.
  • Osteo Keeper is a patent-pending supplement with all natural key ingredients like pomegranate and grape seed extracts that may help my body maximize bone strength and integrity by keeping calcium where it belongs: in my bones.

See what I mean? This is the ultimate bone health solution from Nutrilite, a proud member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation.

Bottom line: I’m exercising more. Increasing calcium-rich foods in my diet, such as dairy products, spinach, and other leafy greens.

And no bones about it: Every day, remember how important it is to take Osteo Keeper and Cal Mag D to work on bone strength and density – and help reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Winter worries (also spring, summer, and fall!)

It’s officially winter, and in many parts of the country, that means lots of cold, snowy weather. And, for many parents, this means protecting our children from the many common ailments that season changes can bring.

As a mother, and resident of the blistery Midwest, I have found a new secret weapon for seasonal worries: Amway’s new Nutrilite® Kids Seasonal Strength™ Probiotic.

You’ve heard about probiotics, haven’t you? These natural, “good” bacteria help reduce the growth of harmful bacteria in our digestive tract. When your digestive tract’s unhealthy, it can affect your whole immune system.

Enter great-tasting chewable Nutrilite Kids Seasonal Strength Probiotic, made just for kids. It’s a natural, clinically-tested formula with one billion (one billion!) colony forming units (CFUs) of Lactobacillus acidophilus in every tablet. That’s the fancy Latin term for a unique strain of probiotics with properties that benefit kids’ digestive and immune systems.

Adding probiotics to my son’s diet naturally supports a healthy digestive system and his immune system throughout every season. Yes, you can get probiotics from foods like yogurt. But what if your kid’s not a big fan?

One more plus: only Seasonal Strength Probiotic has 20% of the daily dose of vitamin C from one of nature’s most concentrated sources: Acerola cherries, grown on Nutrilite’s certified-organic farms.

Probiotics and vitamin C? It’s every mom’s dream – especially during season changes. Seasonal Strength Probiotic offers this powerful combination and more, to keep your kids healthy all year long!

During this season of giving, Amway has a unique opportunity for you to help millions of young people become productive, caring, responsible citizens through the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Visit the Boys and Girls Club of America Facebook page. On it, you’ll see an Amway ad right in the middle of the page that reads “Help Give $1.”

Simply click the “Like” icon, and we’ll donate a dollar to the Boys & Girls Clubs. Every time you or your friends and family click “Like”, another Amway dollar goes to help one more kid.

Of course, while you’re there, you can also make your own donation. Or share the link on your own Facebook page. Even tweet about it.

Around the country, the Boys & Girls Clubs provide support and guidance to some four million at-risk preteens and teens so they can build better futures for themselves and their communities.

We think you’ll agree, that’s a pretty great reason to support this amazing organization, dollar by dollar, especially during this holiday season.

Thanks – from Amway, and from the millions of kids who are members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Because of you, their futures are becoming brighter.

On Thanksgiving, we usually enjoy the kind of food most of us will rarely have again the rest of the year.

Homemade mashed potatoes. Homemade stuffing. Homemade pie. Homemade cranberry sauce.

What do these Thanksgiving favorites have in common? They’re all homemade.

The truth is I haven’t used a potato peeler in a very long time. If I manage to get a meal on the table a few nights a week, I feel as if I’ve done all right.

So along comes Thanksgiving, and all those homemade, once-a-year treats: the green-bean casserole (those canned fried onions!), the homemade rolls (with real butter!), Aunt Mary’s to-die-for pumpkin crumble (Real sugar! Real whipped cream!)

And if you’re like me, you just want to dive right in.

Here’s a radical thought: is there any harm in that? It’s just one meal on one day.

There. I said it. Out of the 1,095 meals (give or take) we’ll eat in a year, this is just one.

So go ahead. Indulge a little. I know I will. Not to the point of discomfort, mind you, but I’ll definitely savor and give thanks for every one of those homemade goodies on the table.

And I’ll also add Nutrilite® Carb Blocker 2 to my meal, because it may prevent up to 500 carbohydrate calories from being absorbed.

After all, this is probably the most carb-filled meal of the year. And if I can block a few of those carbs without losing vitamins, minerals, and fiber – well, why wouldn’t I?

One more thing I plan to do: Hit the treadmill first thing Friday morning.

Whether you choose to indulge or eat salad, I wish you and your family a wonderful, delicious Thanksgiving!

In honor of our heroes

They come from all walks of life. The sons and daughters of the rich and powerful, the middle class, and the less fortunate. They join for life, or for just a few years. They serve in war and in peace. They defend our borders and, at times, our cities.

And every single day, their lives are on the line, as they risk everything to protect everyone.

They are our nation’s soldiers and veterans. And they deserve our respect and gratitude every day of the year, but most especially today, the traditional Veterans Day.

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I – the “war to end all wars” – which officially took place on November 11, 1918.

At Amway, we believe that all Veterans Days deserve recognition, of course. But did you know, the date of this year’s Veterans Day will happen only once in this century?

That’s right, it’s 11/11/11.

So, on this extraordinary date, we wanted to take a minute to salute a few extraordinary heroes: Every Amway Independent Business Owner, customer, employee, and friend who is an American veteran. Your courageous service and sacrifice is greatly appreciated.

And, for those of you who aren’t veterans, you probably know someone who served in the U.S. armed forces at one time or another.

Today, why not reach out to that person? Tell them “thank you” for a job well done.

Some days demand more than we have to give, right?

You know what I’m talking about: You’ve got a full day’s worth of work – all due before noon. Or your kids get up late and now everybody’s rushing to be on time for work, school, whatever. Or you find yourself lagging a little after lunch. Or you hit the wall at the gym.

We all have those days – some of us more than others. That’s why Amway created our exclusive XS™ Energy Gum.

Chew on this: A powerful blast of energy in a convenient, go-everywhere gum. Breath-freshening Arctic Blast flavor. The caffeine equivalent of a cup of coffee in two convenient, bite-size, sugar-free pieces. No jittery effects or caffeine crash, because the energy you feel comes from B vitamins and taurine – not caffeine.

I keep a pack of XS Energy Gum in my purse and one in my desk, so it’s right there whenever I need a little extra spark to power through the rest of the day.

Because some days, I need to chew a little – and do a lot.

Don’t you?

At Amway, we never do anything halfway. So we’ve come up with not one, but two completely different contests – each with crazy-good prizes and (of course) no purchase necessary to win.

For students (ages 17 – 25), there’s the Amway Miss America Scholarship Contest. Amway’s prestige beauty brand, Artistry is not only the official skincare and cosmetics sponsor of Miss America, but also the biggest provider to the Miss America scholarship fund.

Here’s your opportunity to win a college scholarship of your own – to the tune of $10,000. That’s the grand prize in our contest, to be awarded to the person who best exemplifies one or all of the qualities of the Amway & Artistry brands and the Miss America Organization.

Using words or photos, tell us why you deserve this scholarship, and tell all your friends to vote for you. The entry with the most votes by November 14, 2011 will be awarded the scholarship, plus a gift basket packed with Amway-exclusive Miss America favorites, like Artistry essentials® Skin Care, Light-Up Lip Gloss, and Shimmer Powder. Second prize is an Artistry University gift bag complete with an Apple iPad, gift card for books, and plenty of Miss America favorite Artistry products.

We haven’t forgotten to award the faithful voters either. Five lucky voters will win Artistry gift baskets just for voting for their favorite contestant.

And we haven’t forgotten our health and nutrition fans, either.

You love Nutrilite® products, right? And, of course, Nutrilite spokesperson Kurt Warner.

So here’s a way to win Nutrilite prizes signed by Kurt Warner. All you do is download and share our new Kurt Warner trading card application on our Nutrilite Facebook page. We’ll release a new card – and pick new winners – every five days between now and December 21, 2011. Additional prizes include signed Nutrilite and Kurt Warner memorabilia, plus two Apple iPads.

We’ll also add eight prize winners to each drawing every time we hit another 1,000 “likes” on our Nutrilite US page.

There you have it: Another Amway exclusive. Two separate sweepstakes, with double your chances to win.

But don’t take my word for it. Visit our Facebook pages and enter today!

Amway presents … the Detroit Red Wings!

Beginning with the 2011-2012 season, Amway will be the presenting sponsor of the Detroit Red Wings, winner of more Stanley Cup championships than any other U.S. NHL franchise.

Amway is proud to be the first-ever sponsor of this kind for the kings of Hockeytown. Our multi-year agreement with the Wings is a natural “next step” from our current partnership, which features the Amway logo on all Red Wings practice jerseys and pucks.

As part of the agreement, Amway’s Nutrilite™ brand becomes the official nutritional supplement of the Detroit Red Wings – tying our world-class brand with this one-of-a-kind, elite pro sports team.

We love investing in our home state of Michigan, so partnering with this statewide powerhouse is simply puck-perfect.

What do Amway and the Red Wings have in common? Plenty!

Both companies take great pride in being the best. We share decades of heritage and dedication to staying at the top of our game.  And we’re both Michigan-based companies.

At the news conference announcing our new partnership, Olympia Entertainment president Tom Wilson was elated. “The unique similarities between our two companies make this a natural alliance that will enhance all areas of our operations, including player nutrition, fan experience, and our dedication to the community,” he said.

Since Amway is the sole presenting sponsor, Red Wings fans will see Amway signage prominent rink-side and around the Joe Louis Arena. And every Red Wings ticket sold at the Joe will have the Amway logo on it.

A natural fit. A winning match. Let’s hear it for Hockeytown as, once again, Amway skates with the best!

Sprouting good health habits

How do you get kids to eat more veggies? As parents, we all know a diet full of brightly colored fruits and veggies provides important nutrients and antioxidants. Trouble is, most kids “just say no” when it comes to leafy greens – especially since many parents aren’t big fans either.

Solution? Get the kids involved in growing a garden full of vegetables!

That’s the idea behind a partnership with Amway and Boys and Girls Clubs around the country, through our Positive Sprouts organic gardening program.

In 2010, we introduced the Positive Sprouts program in seven cities across the country, to support the healthy lifestyle initiative of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America by helping kids plant gardens right in their own community.

Positive Sprouts aims to inspire kids from the Clubs to adopt good-health habits, set personal goals, and commit to a healthy lifestyle.

The program’s curriculum is designed to teach kids how to grow, harvest, and prepare nutritious fruits and vegetables. It’s a fun, productive way to help them learn about good nutrition through organic gardening.

This week’s garden build is at the Boys and Girls Club in Cypress, California, one of five Clubs selected this year to receive a grant from Amway to build a garden and teach the Positive Sprouts program.

The Cypress location is ideal. Members had already maintained a garden there for the past three years, but now the Club has moved to a new location at Clara J. King Elementary School in Cypress. The new location has many wonderful features – but no garden.

At least, not yet.

But bright and early this Saturday, I’ll be there, along with area dignitaries, Master Gardeners, volunteers, Amway staff and special guest Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, plus members of the Green Education Foundation. Club members will work alongside all of us to plant four different fruit and vegetable garden beds.

We’ll also present fun educational stations, where kids and their parents can learn to make tasty, nutritious smoothies, plant their own seedlings to take home and grow, and paint garden sticks to identify the specific plants in their garden.

It all adds up to a full day of fun – as we help grow great nutrition habits for Cypress-area kids, straight from the ground up!
