Sandra Bullock mentions Artistry brand in InStyle magazine

The Artistry brand is mentioned in the March 2009 issue of InStyle magazine during an interview with actress Sandra Bullock. She lists ARTISTRY and a washcloth as the staples of her daily beauty regimen.

Bangkok briefs

A double-take inducing, witty new ad slick from Amway Thailand called “Shine like new” is making the rounds in the blogosphere. (Okay, car polish doesn’t really work this way, but you’ll get the idea.)

Also: Amway Thailand was recently covered in The Tribune, a major business daily. The gist: global growth, record expansion and market share, as well as weathering the current economy one distributor at a time.

The dish on Dish Drops

Our Dish Drops Phosphate-Free Automatic Dishwasher Detergent Powder received a brief yet welcome mention in “The Green Home” column as part of yesterday’s edition of The New York Times.

The column features a Q&A by the chief engineer of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Design for the Environment Program.

Also worth mentioning: We beat the EPA’s deadline to develop a more environmentally friendly dishwasher detergent by almost two years.

Amway responds to Australian bushfires

Amway of Australia will donate $50,000 and a large quantity of personal care and cleaning products to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund.

Amway will also match donations (initially up to $10,000) by Amway Independent Business Owners (IBOs) and support local IBOs affected by the bushfires.

From Michial Coldwell, general manager of Amway Australia:

I offer my condolences to all of the families of the victims. The Victorian bushfires have devastated many families. Our thoughts are with them at this terrible time.

Since the tragedy, I have been contacted by many people overseas. They are shocked by the devastation and their sympathies are with the people of Victoria.

Amway hopes this assistance will help local families and assist communities to rebuild.

Breathe easier

Allergy sufferers rejoice: our Atmosphere Air Purifier is the first to be certified as “asthma & allergy friendly” by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

From Andy Gamm, air purification brand manager for Amway Global in North America:

This certification process is very thorough and difficult, but our scientists have developed the Atmosphere Air Purifier to meet the strictest guidelines for air purity. We’re honored to have the first air purifier certified by the AAFA under its new testing program.

Refer to either the AAFA release (via PRNewswire) or our own release for more information.

Six million smiles

The Amway One by One Campaign for Children today announced a major milestone. We hope to announce many more in the years to come.

From Dana Boals, vice president for corporate citizenship:

In every country and every community where Amway operates, our people are meeting unique needs of children in a powerful way. Our thanks go out to the thousands employees and distributors who have engaged with One by One and have made a difference—one precious life at a time.

India ink

The Business Standard reports of Amway India’s growth strategy in 2009, as well as a new e-commerce platform for consumers.

Bill Pinckney, managing director for Amway India, also comments on renewed marketing and advertising efforts throughout India, one of our strongest markets.

Follow us on Twitter

The Amway Media Blog now has its own Twitter feed.

Feel free to ask us what one is and how to use it, if you don’t already know. Otherwise, enjoy!

At least that’s how one media outlet described yesterday’s sales announcement. It’s credit to our distributors and their dedication to the business.

As you revisit our new media blog, we’ll be sure to recap coverage from other blogs and web sites that track news from our world headquarters in Ada, Michigan as well as our affiliate markets abroad.

Pertaining to our 2008 sales figures, we garnered coverage from our local television stations WZZM-13 ABC, WOOD-8 NBC and WXMI-17 FOX, as well as area radio and business pubs. The AP caught the early bird last week, as Tribune subscribers in the Windy City discovered.

Of special note, the Grand Rapids Press carried a general story as well as a rather lengthy Q&A with Steve Van Andel and Doug DeVos, our co-CEOs. We liken it to an “everything you wanted to know about the current state of Amway and then some” piece, and are curious to hear what you think in the comments below.

Announced and revealed

It’s a good morning in Ada, where we’ve just announced our annual results for 2008. As we enter our 50th anniversary year, we are proud to see some early and encouraging results of our corporate transformation. In this global climate, we’re certainly excited to share an increase of more than 15 percent in sales over last year. This year, two thirds of our markets grew, and more than half of our 58 worldwide affiliates posted increases of more than 10 percent. Truly, this year’s success was a global one.

We’re also proudly unveiling a new Amway Media Blog today. Throughout this year, there will be some visible changes as we unify the global direct selling business. This is one of them. We have now archived both the “old” Amway Media Blog and the Alticor Media Blog, but of course we’ll still answer any questions on topics we previously covered.

Going forward, we will be able to relay the news that matters most at Amway through one voice, here at this site. Here’s the news of the day:
