Every October, CLEO Magazine Thailand inducts a number of products to its Beauty Hall of Fame. Judges include beauty bloggers such as this one, well known makeup artists, and writers and editors from CLEO. All use the products for at least a month, but usually longer, in order to accurately report on the results.
This year, Artistry took home not one, but seven, Hall of Fame awards. Some of the categories honoring Artistry and the Artistry Essentials line included “Best Makeup for Newbies,” “Best Acne Healers,” and “Best D.I.Y. Product.”
CLEO is about confidence, naturalness, energy and fun for young Thai women. So we think it’s only fitting that Artistry now holds a place in the magazine’s history.
And this week the Twitterverse was abuzz with word that American Idol season eight finalist Adam Lambert would perform at Amway Japan’s leadership seminar in Shanghai.
But one of the biggest stars in Amway Japan’s universe wasn’t in Tokyo or Shanghai, but right here at Amway World Headquarters.
Kaoru Nakajima, an Amway Founders Crown Ambassador with 50 Founders Achievement Award (FAA) points, visited Ada this week. Nakajima-san was greeted like a rock star by Amway employees who lined up to cheer him and his achievements.
Nakajima-san was a music composer when he was introduced to the Amway business, and was immediately inspired by the potential the opportunity offered. “I felt the Amway business was going to be my lifelong work,” he said in an interview a few years ago. “There is minimal risk and I was confident I’d be able to have a wonderful life with my family and friends.”
Last week young patients with cleft lips, palates and other facial deformities underwent corrective surgery through Operation Smile, supported by Amway.
This is the fourth year Amway has supported Operation Smile efforts to bring life-changing surgeries to children in Vietnam. During this period our affiliate has contributed a total of 2.4 billion dong to the effort through Operation Smile and Hands of Hope.
After the surgery, there were presents for the patients to open to celebrate the season. But the new smiles for these 80 children were the greatest gifts of all.
The digital marketing team for Amway Korea was formed less than a year ago. And earlier this month, the Korea Internet Professionals Association (KIPFA) bestowed one of the team’s projects with a Grand Prize during its Smart App Awards 2011.
The project is a web application known as sABN, with the “s” standing for smart. The app provides Amway distributors with an easy-to-use shopping interface and sophisticated design. It won the Grand Prize in the Specialized Shopping Category.
Amway Korea Manager of Digital and Integrated Marketing Hyun Dong Kim said, “This success is mostly attributed to the members of our Digital Business Task Force, who put their full efforts behind sABN. Our collaboration with the digital team at Amway World Headquarters also played a large role.”
This newly formed – and clearly very talented – team is off to a great start.
The list recognizes women who lead companies and divisions and are leaders in their own communities. More importantly, they share advice for other women climbing the corporate ladder.
“I have been blessed to have strong mentors and role models at critical points in my career,” says Matthews. “I am very aware of the necessity to continue to blaze the trail and be a strong example for others to follow. You never know whose career path you are impacting.”
Paul Keep, managing editor of The Grand Rapids Press | Mlive, and Laurie Cirivello, publisher of the hyperlocal Rapidian site, shared how their respective media outlets have changed the ways they deliver news and share stories with readers. And Japanese editors offered ways they, too, are exploring new ways to report the news.
One way a Japanese newspaper connects with readers is through “bicycle journalists” whose beats are city streets and the people they meet. It’s similar to how The Rapidian uses citizen reporters to provide close-to-home coverage of people, places and things in Grand Rapids, Amway’s hometown.
The group also had a lively discussion about the future of print editions of newspapers. While many U.S. newspapers have migrated content online in response to declining print circulation, the Japanese journalists have a renewed commitment to provide print editions.
That’s because during the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan, broadcast and online news sources were not available due to widespread power outages. But newspapers were able to produce print editions, which became a critical resource of information following the disaster.
When is the best time to start a business? According to Amway President Doug DeVos – a passionate champion for free enterprise – it’s a personal decision not to be swayed by fears about the economy or other external factors.
“Start it now,” he told business leaders and students gathered recently at the Detroit Economic Club. “You have the ability to allocate resources, to make investments of your time, your talent and your treasure. Invest them now.”
DeVos singled out the key role business can play in reinvigorating the economy. He suggested that the business community partner with government officials to create an environment that can help unleash the power of the entrepreneur.
Business, he said, has the capacity to create prosperity which generates economic freedom and, in turn, leads to personal freedom. Making investments in time and talent right now will help the economy recover.
“It’s up to us to take action and do something about it. And I believe improving the quality of life for people in our communities is a cause worth fighting for.”
