Cycle of health

When it comes to eating well and exercising, Nutrilite brand ambassador Samim Rizvi doesn’t just walk the talk. He cycles it, too.

Rizvi, the only Indian to qualify for the Race Across America (RAAM), was recently featured in an article by Indian Bloom for his efforts in promoting healthy eating habits and fitness in Kolkata.

Rizvi, who also counts among his accomplishments riding 435.6 miles (701 kms.) in 24 hours and riding from Mumbai to Bangalore and back in 3.5 days –a round trip of about 1,228 miles or 1,976 kms.- said that optimal health is all about balance, both in your eating habits and your exercise.

“A well-balanced diet, full of variety of fruits and vegetables and right supplementation go hand in hand with (a) fitness workout.”

Your Nutrilite Radio Theatre

If you look at the Nutrilite timeline in the appendix of Dr. Sam Rehnborg’s book, The Nutrilite Story, you’ll see that the fifties was a busy time for Nutrilite. Farming operations were expanding, a state-of-the-art research lab and quality control lab were built, and the first iteration of the butterfly shaped green plastic container to hold DoubleX was designed and created.

The marketing department was hard at work in the fifties, too. “Your Nutrilite Radio Theatre” debuted on the NBC Radio Network for the 1955-56 season. Every Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m., Pat O’Brien and Jimmy Wallington hosted the show that was a “brilliant series of original plays featuring Hollywood’s Top Stars.” There were 26 episodes that played on 172 stations across the country.

The marketers didn’t stop there, though. They ingeniously teamed with Hollywood scriptwriters and created the “Nutrilite Radio Theatre Contest” and accepted story ideas submitted from people all across the country. The winning entries were adapted and dramatized on the air throughout the season. 26 winners were flown to Hollywood for the “trip of a lifetime” and given the opportunity to appear on the radio program broadcasting their winning entry.

Imagine being in that radio studio in 1956 watching actors producing your story and broadcasting it across the country. That is truly ”Your Nutrilite Radio Theatre.”

And the winner is…

On Sunday the winning chant in the Make Some Noise! competition played on the maxi-screen during an AC Milan home game at San Siro stadium. It was the culmination of a special contest on the AC Milan and Nutrilite Facebook pages that started in mid-October.

AC Milan soccer fans submitted videos of their original chants, ten chants were selected out of the submissions, and then the community of fans from both pages voted for their favorite chant.

And the winner… “Rosso e Nero” by Fabiano Fumerola.

It was a collaborative effort that was performed by a choir loudly singing out the chorus. Mr. Fumerola’s chant submission even received coverage in his local newspaper. It was played a total of four times in the stadium on Sunday, much to the delight of the players and the fans in the stadium.

AC Milan won the game beating Chievo Verona by a score of 4-0, so perhaps the extra encouragement helped spur the team on to victory! : )

Wellness collaboration

Today in Moscow, Nutrilite scientist, Dr. Keith Randolph presented research results from two new studies at the US – Russia Scientific forum. The results demonstrate that overweight Russian adults have stress markers – biological indicators of stress – that may be linked to poor long-term health outcomes. Like their American counterparts, many Russian adults are exhibiting signs that suggest future poor heart health.

The research results highlight the successful collaboration between the Russian Institute of Nutrition, a branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Amway Nutrilite Health Institute.

Scientists can use these markers to help people threatened by the onset of cardiovascular disease take proper wellness steps to improve their health.

Here’s Dr. Randolph discussing his research:

One for the record books

On October 23, more than 16,000 people gathered in Shanghai’s Pudong Century Park  for the Amway Nutrilite Health Run.

Athletes from age four to 84 were joined by Wang Jun Xia, former women’s 5000m run Olympic champion, and Yang Wei,  2008 Olympic all-around gymnastics champion, as they ran shoulder-to-shoulder through the city.

After finishing the run, participants enjoyed a Charity Jamboree that benefitted the Shanghai Cancer Research Center.

Through Amway China’s You Run, I Donate program, each participant generated Rmb10 in donations to the center.

That’s impressive, but there’s more.

The run was accredited as the “largest scale health run” by Shanghai Big World Guinness, which records exceptional human feats – in this case, the most people gathered for a health run.

The Nutrilite Health Run has attracted 2.8 million runners in 70 cities in its 10 years. It’s been a great success in encouraging people to focus on health education rather than competition.

This year’s event was definitely one for the record books!
