The Allure of Rick DiCecca

As the global makeup artist for ARTISTRY, the prestige beauty brand of Amway, Rick DiCecca does more than simply tell people how to put on eyeshadow.

Beauty Inc Top 100

The results are in, and Alticor made the cut.

Every year, WWD Beauty Inc ranks the world’s Top 100 largest beauty companies by their sales for the calendar year.

In 2012, Alticor, the parent company of Amway, came in at number 18 on the list – citing its ARTISTRY brand as a key reason for growth.

The skincare and cosmetics brand saw an estimated $2.9 billion in sales in a year that was filled with achievements, including a continued brand restage with the new global face of actress Teresa Palmer, the new “Crescendo” packaging design and the new product launches of ARTISTRY YOUTH XTEND and ARTISTRY IDEAL RADIANCE.

We’re happy to have one more thing to celebrate and thankful to the Amway business owners who helped make it happen.

Fashion Forward

The fashion community celebrated some of the world’s brightest designers at the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards on Monday evening at the Lincoln Center in New York City — and ARTISTRY was part of the action.

ARTISTRY Global Face, Teresa Palmer, attended the evening’s festivities as the special guest of designer Yigal Azrouël. She wore a custom Yigal Azrouël abstract brushstroke print gown and Resort 2014 collection booties with makeup by ARTISTRY Global Makeup Artist, Rick DiCecca.

The awards were hosted by Andy Cohen. Among the celebrities in attendance were Kerry Washington, Jessica Chastain, Rooney Mara, Adriana Lima, Tobey Maguire and Nicole Richie.

Punk to Pretty

ARTISTRY Global Face, Teresa Palmer, joined A-list celebrities at the 2013 Met Ball held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night in New York City. This year’s theme, “PUNK: Chaos to Couture,” brazenly challenged celebrities and style-makers – by invitation only – to pay homage to the punk movement via over-the-top, rebellious Red Carpet fashion.

In stark contrast to her uber-feminine, plunging red gown by Diane von Furstenberg, Palmer’s dramatic makeup featured thick, tar-like brows with a hollowed out eye and a stone cold neutral sharp lip by makeup artist Jo Baker for ARTISTRY.

“Teresa is amazing at pulling off so many different looks – much like the roles she plays in her films, she lives and breathes the part,” said Maud Pansing, VP Global Beauty, Amway.  “Her look last night was definitely rebel-chic.”

Inspire your own enchanted look

5 Minutes With… Zac

Welcome to a new feature at the Amway Insider: 5 Minutes With…

Occasionally we will choose an interesting person connected to Amway or the direct selling industry and ask them a few quick questions. We’re very excited about our inaugural guest, Zac. We’ve written about him before, but this is the first time we got Zac to sit down for an interview. Thanks to Antonia Krunes of Amway Australia and New Zealand for tracking down the jet-setting stick figure.

How does it feel to be Amway’s unofficial “social mascot”?

Great! I love my Amway business and the great opportunity it offers. It’s so much fun being in my own videos and attending all the exciting Amway Achievers events. I love connecting with people through social media – it helps me share my great experiences with Amway!

What do you think about your social counterpart, Carlos, helping spread the word about Amway in Latin America?

Carlos is a legend – he’s doing a fantastic job at letting people in Latin America know about the best business opportunity in the world.

How many languages do you know?

I speak English, Spanish, Portugese and most of the other major languages. I’m a quick study!

Can you tell us about your latest video?

Sometimes people ask me if Amway products are worth the price tag. I know that nothing compares to Amway’s quality products – but I’m not sure how to tell others! So in my latest video I go on a journey to discover what makes Amway products world-class. I find out about the rich history of Amway’s products. They don’t manufacture to the lowest cost, but produce the best value. Watch it here and find out why “Nothing Compares to Amway!”

What stands out about your trip to Amway World Headquarters last year?

I definitely remember getting caught up on all of the episodes of “The Office” during the 14-hour airplane ride. Aside from that, so many things! I got to meet Amway Chairman Steve Van Andel and sit his office, which has an amazing view of the “flag promenade” where Amway displays the flags from every country where it does business.

I also loved touring the beauty research and development labs. They even gave me my very own lab coat! Walking down the Hall of Achievement was another eye-opening moment. If anyone reading this gets the chance to visit Ada, I’d highly recommend it – it was the experience of a lifetime.

Warm reception for Warm Bodies

Zombies were the talk of the town – not to mention alive and well – at the highly anticipated Warm Bodies premiere at the Arclight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood earlier this week. The romantic zombie-comedy – cleverly coined a “zomedy romance” in film circles – stars Nicholas Hoult, John Malkovich and, as the female lead, Australian actress Teresa Palmer, who is also the global face of ARTISTRY. 

Palmer literally took guests’ breath away in a stunning, sheer-lace embellished gown by Phillip Armstrong with makeup by Melanie Inglessis for ARTISTRY. The premiere attracted scores of Hollywood A-listers and entertainment industry professionals on the heels of a New York City premiere hosted by ARTISTRY and The Cinema Society. Penn Badgley, Kelly Rutherford, Amber Tamblyn, Parker Posey, Helena Christensen and Gabourey Sidibe were among the celebrities who swarmed in droves – despite the arctic temps – to show their support for the quirky love story. 

Warm Bodies hits theaters today in U.S. and will roll out around the globe later this year.

The Holidays with Teresa and Rick

It may be the holidays, but ARTISTRY Global Face Teresa Palmer and ARTISTRY Global Makeup Artist Rick DiCecca worked overtime for us. The duo were kind enough to share their holiday wishes, traditions and shopping lists via the ARTISTRY Facebook page. We chose a few to share here, too. 

FAVORITES: Something they have in common: ”Miracle on 34th Street” is their favorite holiday movie. And they won’t be found watching it alone since “togetherness” and “gathering with friends and family” is what they love most about this time of year.

SHOPPING: We don’t want to spoil the surprise, but their friends and family can count on receiving some ARTISTRY products as gifts this year. Teresa will be giving out more than one ARTISTRY Creme L/X and Rick plans to introduce his nieces to a set of ARTISTRY makeup brushes. (Funny how that works out, isn’t it?)

GIVING BACK: Teresa and her best friend will spend time making sandwiches that they will hand out to the homeless in Los Angeles this year. Rick’s schedule keeps him very busy, so he made sure to donate to Heifer International, which provides livestock to families in villages across the world as a means of sustaining support.

FOOD: Teresa is looking forward to her stepmother’s barbecue fish and fresh mango avocado salad, while Rick will be enjoying his family’s tradition of seafood dishes, like spicy tomato sauce with lobster over homemade pasta and fresh shrimp. (“And there’s always room for homemade cannoli and Christmas cookies!”)

SNOW: Are they dreaming of a white Christmas? For Teresa it would be a first. “I would love a white Christmas! I’ve never had one before, but the snow would add to the magic Christmas spirit.”

Not so much for Rick. “Not my thing,” he said. “For many years, I’ve gone someplace sunny on Christmas day and have stayed to celebrate the New Year.”

If you plan to spend the holidays in Miami this year, watch for Rick and say hello. That’s where he’ll be ringing in 2013.

ARTISTRY in the spotlight

ARTISTRY played a “break out” role at the 17th Busan International Film Festival as the Diamond Premiere Exclusive Sponsor of the annual competition. The festival ran from Oct. 4-13 and included more than 221,000 guests and 304 films from 75 countries.

The event also featured celebrities, screenwriters, producers, directors and entertainment industry professionals. Among them? Emerging Hollywood actress Teresa Palmer. We know her better as the global face of ARTISTRY.

Palmer’s recent film, “Wish You Were Here,” was filmed in Cambodia and screened at BIFF. She shined in a Naeem Khan tufted taffeta, bejeweled gown. And, thanks to a billboard 74 meters wide and 29 meters tall, she also took center stage during a fireworks display.

“It was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life,” Palmer said. “Seeing my face emblazoned on a gigantic billboard is one thing, but sharing the evening with such amazing talent from around the world in support of independent filmmaking – I felt so blessed.”

Amway Chief Marketing Officer Candace Matthews said ARTISTRY’s sponsorship of BIFF shows Amway is staking its claim as one of the top five premium skincare brands around the world.

“Our goal is to help all women take their beauty forward with superior products that perform, and a business opportunity that helps them play the ‘leading ladies’ in their own lives with grace and poise,” Matthews said.

Fall Paradise

We immersed ARTISTRY Global Face Teresa Palmer in the restort town’s luxury and natural beauty for a photo shoot to promote the new limited-edition colors of the ARTISTRY Fall 2012 Escape to Paradise Color Collection, reminiscent of the icy blues and silvers found in the town’s majestic mountains and the rich golds and warm caramels found inside the chalets.
