An update on Japan

Apr 11, 2011

There has been an incredible amount of giving among Amway and its employees and distributors worldwide.

The $350,000 set aside as a challenge grant has been met, and exceeded, reaching $634,070 through the March 31 challenge period. In appreciation of these efforts, Amway leaders have decided to match all of the contributions received during this time.

With combined donations from Amway headquarters, affiliate offices in Japan and around the world, and Amway employees, distributors and customers, donations have now exceeded $4.4 million.

Funds will be used to support the Japanese Red Cross and other agencies on the ground, as well as long-term recovery efforts. The funds collected by Amway distributors in Japan have been designated to support those distributors affected by this tragedy.

It has been extremely difficult to get information on those affected. Amway leaders in Japan have now completed a swing of DD meetings in every prefecture along the northeastern coast that was hit by the tsunami. At these meetings they have been gathering information from the DDs about their downlines, including numbers of fatalities, missing, homes damaged/destroyed and those that have been evacuated from the Fukushima evacuation zone.

At this time, we expect that the numbers of those affected by nuclear evacuations, damaged homes and fatalities will be in the hundreds. Our hearts go out to our friends and colleagues affected by this tragedy.
