Seeing the world in a hospital gown

Jul 04, 2011

Traveling the world is something most kids only dream about. But for the patients at the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, they came much closer.

Amway employees from the Consumer and Market Insights department helped these children travel “Around the World” to virtual countries through games, crafts and food.

As the room buzzed with smiles and laughter, employees were able to connect with the children during ring toss, puzzles and ice cream sundaes.

CMI employees were also given a tour of the brand new facility and were able to see why this hospital is among the most advanced in the nation.

“In every part of the hospital we saw an attention to all of the needs of the patients and their families, not just their medical ones,” shared employee Joel Ombry. “From the playroom with the home theater, to quiet areas for family to simply get away, great care was obviously taken to ensure that patients and families would be able to make being in the hospital as comfortable and compassionate as possible.”

This event allowed the children an opportunity to enjoy a fun, engaging and educational opportunity outside of their hospital rooms.

“It’s a blessing to have the opportunity to work and volunteer with a company that gives back to its community on multiple levels, from funding, to time, to talents,” said employee Cara Hahn. “No contribution is ever too small, and I’ve come to realize through participating in events such as this one the positive impact we can have on kids and their families through working together.”

Thanks to Yogesh Chavda for leading this project and for sharing the story with us.
