Lip Tips with ARTISTRY Automatic LipLiner Pencil Holder

Throw out everything you’ve learned from the 80’s and 90’s about lip liner – the lip harshly drawn in a bold color, providing an actual “outline” for a lighter shade of lipstick on the lips is a trend of the past!
In pleasant contrast, today’s lip liner is best used by accentuating and defining the lip line, while blending seamlessly with the lip color.

ARTISTRY offers three neutral shades of lip liner, to be used in conjunction with the ARTISTRY Automatic LipLiner Pencil Holder: Pink Nude, Dusty Rose and Spiced Wine. From subtle to dramatic, each shade offers a different look, as well as options to mix and match with your lip color.

3414 - ARTISTRY® Automatic LipLiner Pencil Refills & Holder

Lip liners are great multi-tasking tools as they are useful as both a base for lip color or as an adherent lip color used solo.

ARTISTRY Automatic LipLiner Pencil’s fine tip allows for lip definition, and its creamy texture will not tug or pull at the lip surface. Instead, it glides on effortlessly and prevents feathering and bleeding of darker lip color into the fine lines of the mouth.

When applying lip liner, the rule of thumb is to follow the natural line of the lip and importantly, avoid using too heavy a hand! To extend the lip line for a fuller, plumper lip, line the outer edge of the lip (or to minimize an overly full lip, line the inside of the lip line).

To achieve a nude/natural look, apply ARTISTRY’s Pink Nude LipLiner to the lip line, and then lightly fill the total lip surface with Pink Nude, giving you a lightweight but color-enhanced look that will last. Top with a lip gloss, such as ARTISTRY Sheer Coverage Lip Gloss, and you’ve got a natural, healthy and glossy glow!

Remember, creamy lip color (lipsticks and glosses) may wear off from eating, drinking and talking, but lip liner has true staying-power. By using a lip liner on the surface of your lips before your lip color, you’ve given your lips a strong color base that will remain, even after your lip color has worn off.

So line those lips, fill in with lip liner as a base, top with a quick coat of lipstick/gloss and see for yourself!

Prior to Miss America Laura Kaeppeler’s visit to Amway World Headquarters, we asked the fans of the Amway US Facebook page, “If you could ask Miss America anything, what would it be?”

These are the most popular questions from that post, answered by Miss America herself.

If you had nothing and were offered only one thing, what would you ask for?

-Otto H. Westhassel

Wisdom. If you have wisdom, you have knowledge and with knowledge you can figure out how to get anything you need.

If you could revive someone from the past, who would it be and why?

-Giordy Gullone

My grandfather. He was an instrumental part of my childhood and he died at age 65 of cancer. I was still a child when he was passed and I’d really like to spend more time with him.

What’s your favorite Artistry product?

-Alejandro Chavez Ortiz, Jeanne Hopple, Leticia Rico

I definitely want to take care of my eyes because I have a crazy travel schedule and I don’t always get the sleep I need. Artistry Creme LuXury Eye is perfect! I love how it renews the look of my eyes, and I don’t go anywhere without it!

Winning Miss America title takes a lot of courage and you are very pretty. My question for you is: Would you have the courage to walk in public without make-up?

-Cindy Vy

I’m just like any other woman, I enjoy wearing makeup because it enhances my features, but my makeup doesn’t define me. I walk around in public without makeup all the time and I’m not at all afraid of people seeing me without makeup.

There are also several requests for dates…

One of the best things about being Miss America is meeting a ton of new people; however, since my travel schedule is so busy, I honestly don’t have much time to date!

By Shayne Crocker

Packing for a trip is always an undertaking.  We agonize over what outfits to bring, how many pairs of shoes to take, and of course what makeup to haul in our makeup bags.  I, like most people, tend to overdo it, and never use half of the products I packed!

When packing skincare and makeup, we feel we need of all the lotions and potions we use on a daily basis, especially the item we might need in an emergency.  We end up bringing everything in our bathroom cabinets, and have much more then we will ever need on our trip.  Going on vacation is all about letting go and relaxing.  This doesn’t mean you have to abandon your beauty regime – just consolidate and simplify.

When going on a vacation you always want to be prepared.  Your skin may have different needs in regard to the stress of travel, hot or cold climate change and different eating habits.  So you want to plan and pack accordingly, and only bring the items you need for your getaway.

Follow these essential travel rules along few extra tips to insure you will be prepared for anything, your packing will be easy, and your beauty bag will be light:

  • Get a manicure and pedicure a day or two before you go on holiday.  Buy the nail color they used on your nails, or bring one you already own.   Pack the nail polish, along with a clear top coat and a nail file all together in a plastic baggy for quick touchups to ensure your nails will look fabulous for the duration of your trip.
  • Get your eyebrows, bikini line, underarms and legs professionally waxed a week before your vacation. This will ensure smooth, radiant skin without razor burn or irritations, and no need for a razor or refills.  No fuss and no worries about shaving while you’re gone.
  • Pack a high SPF for the face and body, along with an after sun lotion that will double as a body lotion.  Protecting your skin from the sun’s rays is a key factor to beautiful skin and your health in general.
  • Buy travel size containers for shampoo, conditioner, and your favorite hair care products they will take up less room in your bag, and are easy to refill for your next vacation.
  • Artistry Essentials Skincare travel systems in normal to dry and normal to oily are perfect for your 3-step skincare regime.  A mini cleanser, toner, and moisturizer with SPF 15 are the ideal size for a vacation.  Pack Artistry Replenishing Eye Crème into the travel kit as well, it is the perfect hydrating eye crème for all your needs on vacation, and makes the skincare complete.
  • Sheer Lip Colour in Sandrine for lips, it is a great universal color and is beautiful on everyone.
  • Artistry Total Mascara in Black gives definition to the lashes, is waterproof, and will last all day long in any climate.
  • Drink lots and lots of fresh water.  Staying hydrated especially in a hot sunny climate makes a big impact on your overall health.

Now your beauty bag is complete with only the must-haves you need to look and feel great on your next vacation!

Earth tones are a significant influence in makeup, clothes and accessories for spring 2012 style.  Natural textiles of leather, wood, feathers and metal are major components in belts, shoes and handbags.  Soft neutral-color palettes of gray, peach, blush, cream and nude from Donna Karan and Michael Kors, for example, take on a modern chic influence in fashion.  Makeup paired with this organic style-approach is fresh and pretty – a no-fuss look that radiates and glows.

For a fresh modern take on the natural look, we always want to make sure our skin is looking its best.  Use Artistry essentials or Time Defiance 3-step skincare systems morning and night to maintain healthy skin.  Try Artistry Intensive Skincare Renewing Peel to unveil fresh glowing skin 1-2 times per week.  Lastly use an Artistry Eye Crèmes to hydrate under and around the eye area day and night.

Your face should now look clean and bright.  Apply Artistry essentials Concealer under the eye to hide dark circles, lift the eye and cover any imperfections.  Next use Artistry Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 over the face for sheer light-weight coverage.  Tinted Moisturizer evens out the skin without looking like makeup, while adding sun protection and a natural glow to the skin.

Eye makeup this season will be smoky, subtle, and pure.  Begin by using a wash of Fusion Eye Colour all over the lid and blended into the crease of the eye.  Then take Bone Eye Colour and place it under the entire brow to highlight and add definition to the brows.  Apply Rich Eye Colour with essentials Eye Liner Brush as close as you can to the lash line on the top and bottom of the eye giving it a soft smoky defined look.  Finish the eyes with only one or two coats of Artistry essentials Mascara.  You want the lashes to appear feathery and soft.

Cheeks should have a soft contoured appearance with just a slight stroke of Rosewood or Sun Kissed Cheek Colour.  Dust very lightly along the cheek bone to just add a little definition.  Follow by applying 3-D Face Powder to the cheek bones in Shimmer Coral for touch of sheen and radiance.

Stain lips with a touch of Subdued Lip Colour for a nude look.  Finish the lips by using Light up Lip Gloss in Champagne to the center of the lips for added shine.

Hair should look very natural down with soft waves or placed in a tousled bun for windswept easy going style.

This spring get back to nature in style with earthy influences sure to make a statement where ever you go!

Skincare Checkup

By Bridgette Force

Daylight saving time means more than losing an hour of sleep and the reminder that the spring/summer season is about to begin.  It is also a great reminder to do a skincare checkup.

We have talked about the importance of exfoliating in many of our past blogs, so depending on the type of exfoliation you are using, make sure to exfoliate on a regular basis.

The first step in your skin checkup is to assess how your skin feels today. The really important question to ask yourself:  is your skin comfortable?  Does it feel oily or dry and tight?   Does your foundation look natural or does it seem to sit on the surface of the skin or look cakey and patchy?  If you have any of these issues, it may be time to adjust your skincare routine.

Let’s talk about the changes that spring brings.  This is the time your skin can become a little oily and your foundation can appear to be sitting on the surface of your skin, and not have a healthy, natural look.  Remember:  your skin should always look like skin – not foundation.  Most skincare lines offer options in skincare formulas between normal to dry and normal to oily.  Usually they will offer a cream formula and a lotion formula.  If you are currently using a cream formula moisturizer and your skin feels a little oily, try switching to the Lotion formula moisturizer for the spring and summer months.  An example of this is the Artistry Time Defiance line.  They offer a moisturizer in both cream and lotion.  This is a great option because you are still getting the anti-aging ingredients but have the option of using a lotion-type moisturizer for the warmer months.

My skin is pretty normal but does go through slight changes as the seasons change so switching just my moisturizer works best for me.  I still use the same cleanser and toner – I just change my moisturizer.  If you have done this and still feel things aren’t quite right, the next change you might want to make is switching your toner.  Instead of using a toner that is usually used on normal to dry skin type, use a toner designed for normal to oily. Remember, your skin still needs hydration even in the hot and humid months.  This may be enough for your skin to feel comfortable throughout spring and summer.

Now also might be the time to check your foundation formula.  It is fairly easy to do this as most brands have many different foundation formulas in the same skin tone colors.  I like to switch from a moisturizing formula like Artistry Hydrating Foundation to the Artistry Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15 for the spring/summer months.  It is lighter weight, works well with our busy schedules, feels great and looks natural on my skin.

One other important point for spring/summer is sunscreen.  Don’t count on your skincare and foundation to give you the only sun protection on your face.  You need to be using a larger amount of product then you would be getting from just your moisturizer and foundation, so it is best to use an actual sunscreen product designed specifically for faces.   They now come in different formulas so choose a type that works for you and use it every day, year around.

So remember to use the start of Daylight saving time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors and a perfect time to get your skincare routine and products adjusted for the upcoming spring/summer season.

New Neon

By Bridgette Force

This spring we are hearing all kinds of color names such as Tango Mango, Neon Green and Bright Yellow.  Blue is electric and Magenta rules but the questions I get are, “Can I wear those colors?,” “They are really too bright for me,” and  “I don’t want to look like I am trying to look like my daughter.”  Here are some tips and answers to these questions that will bring a little neon into your lives.

Can I wear those colors?

The most important first step is to figure out exactly what “brights” look best on you.  Start by determining if you need the more warm colors (golden or yellow-based color), or cool colors (blue-based colors).  I have a trick that really works and will help you choose the right color family for you:

Start by taking a trip to your favorite cosmetics counter and look at the lipstick colors.   I don’t want you to just start trying colors; we have a plan in mind.  It’s best if you arrive with no lip-color on your lips but if you can’t leave the house without at least your Artistry Light Up Lip Gloss on, you can ask to have the artist at the counter to remove your lip-color.  When you look at the lip colors, it is easy to find a warm pink, a cool mauve or plum and a neutral (brown based) lip color.  Apply a vertical stripe of each of these colors on your bottom lip.  Remember, you want to apply all three colors side by side for comparison.  The next step is to take a look in the mirror.  One color (or if you are lucky two colors) will look like it belongs and flatters your natural coloring.

When you find the correct color, buy it and use it for your reference to help make your choice of the neon color that works for you –  no matter if you are purchasing makeup, clothes or accessories.  If you have a question about a choice, wear the lipcolor or take it out of your bag and hold it up to the fabric you are considering.  Does the lip color go well with the neon you are about to choose or does it just look funky and wrong.

The second and equally important step is to adjust your makeup to the neon.  One neon color is enough!  Don’t try to compete with your neon colored apparel.  Keep your makeup soft and natural but maybe add a bold or red lip such as Artistry’s Lip Colour in Stunning, Rouge or Beaute.  Another option if you are not a red or bold lip gal is the new trend glosses in the Artistry Escape to Paradise Gloss Duo collection in “Pacific Orchid”.

You could also choose one of the Artistry Escape to Paradise Eye Pencils in either Island Violet or Lagoon and add to your eye makeup.  Remember, when you are wearing neons, choose either lips, eyes or cheeks to add a bright color, not your entire makeup.  Less is more with neon makeup colors.

They are really too bright for me.

It’s all about wearing things and colors you are comfortable in.  If the new neon colors make you feel uncomfortable then look to pastels.  I love the new sea foam color as an alternative to neon.  You have as many choices in pastel colors as you do in neon.  Use the test I have described above to make sure you get into the correct color family.  Someone who has very pink undertones probably won’t look good in sage, yellow or orange, but would look wonderful in sea foam.

Another tip is to add a small bit of neon to your wardrobe such as a bright belt, scarf, bag or sandal.

I don’t want to look like I am trying look like my daughter.

This is a tough one because neon colors look great on almost everyone and they really lift our spirits.  They also vary from region to region across the USA.  What works for Florida probably wouldn’t be as widely accepted in Seattle.   In this instance, I feel there are no barriers – just guidelines.  Everyone can wear the new neon colors, but sometimes a pop of color is as much of a statement as a whole bunch of color at one time.  A bright flip-flop and neon pedicure and manicure goes great with black and white.  Bright bangles and earrings really give some excitement to natural fabrics.  A big summer bag and matching bright wedges give a whole new meaning to the basic white summer outfit.  Don’t forget what you can do with a pair of colored jeans and a white tee shirt.  Again, make sure the color family is correct by using the “lipstick test” and shine on!

Let take a journey across the sea to the nostalgic coast of Italy.  Here we go first Genoa, next to Portofino, and lastly to the Tuscan Coast; let’s bask in the sand, sun, and absolute glamour of the Italian Riviera.   Artistry Limited Edition Trend 2012 Collection is just that: an Escape to Paradise encompassing all that this timeless European shoreline represents.

Imagine lounging on the shore of the Italian Riviera in the 1950’s, sipping an ice-cold Pellegrino with the clean smell of salty air blowing through your hair.   While drifting away in paradise, you see the Italian screen siren Sophia Loren with pastel washed eyes-cat eyes and shimmering raspberry lips catching your eye, she saunters by with a large brimmed straw hat on her head and vibrantly colored scarf loosely tied around her waist.

Further down the shore you catch a glimpse of the gorgeous blonde bombshell French Actress Brigitte Bardot; she is strolling along the shore in a white two-piece swimsuit.  Brigitte is hard to miss with sun kissed radiant skin, golden peachy eyes, and her trademark lips tinted a glossy pink.

Escape to Paradise takes you away to this era, an enchanted moment in time, and makes it easy to create the elegant vintage look of these 1950’s glamour girls.  The collection includes Two Cheek and Eye Quads; Golden Glow and Fresh Radiance, Tropical Coral and Pacific Orchid Lip Gloss Duo Compacts, and lastly Island Violet and Lagoon Eye Pencils.   The new Artistry Trend Colour Collection gives you all you need to channel your inner Sophia and Brigitte!

The Sophia

Eyes

Fresh Radiance Eye Quad is on the eyes.  Choose Sea Foam, Shell, or both layered on top of one another for a pop of color on the lid.  Use Drift in the crease to create soft definition.  Apply Antique just under the brow to highlight.  Take this rich teal green Lagoon Eye Liner Pencil and draw a thick line across the top lash line extending out past the corner of your eye for a winged or cat-eye effect.  Complete the look with lots of Artistry Total Mascara on the lashes.

Cheeks

Swirl the brush through the Cheek Colour Quad.  Apply to the apple of your cheeks and blend up along your cheek bone.  Highlight with a little Cheek Colour along your forehead and chin for added glow.

Lips

Use Pacific Orchid Lip Gloss Duo on the lips.  First use the deeper Raspberry shade to add color to the lips, and finish with light lavender for even more shine.

The Brigitte

Eyes

Golden Glow plays up the eyes. Place Lotus on the lid for a soft, youthful look.  Apply Iris to the outer corner and crease of the eye.  Warm the look by layering Fusion in the crease as well along the bottom lash line.  Finish with Bone under the brow to brighten and lift.  Perfect the eyes with Island Violet Eye Pencil – an intense sparkling violet shade.  Draw a thick line across the upper lash line extending out past the eye for the cat-eye effect.  Line the bottom lash line for added definition.  Complete with Artistry Total mascara on the top and bottom lashes.

Cheeks

Swirl the brush through the Golden Glow Cheek Colour Quad.  Apply along the cheek bone to the temples.  Dust along the outer perimeter of the face, along the bridge of the nose, forehead, and chin for a bronzed sun kissed glow.

Lips

Apply Tropical Coral Lip Gloss Duo on the lips.  Stain the lips with Coral, and add Hot Pink for sheer color and high gloss shine.

Escape to Paradise with sophistication inspired by the elegance and vintage beauty of the Italian Riviera.  Now it’s time for you to decide are you The Sophia, The Brigitte, or both!

Prepping for a late winter getaway.

By Bridgette Force

One of the greatest things about late winter is a late winter vacation!  We toss aside our Ugg and boots for sandals and flip flops and shed our sweaters and scarves for shorts and bathing suits.   Then we look in the mirror and realize we might need to help things along before we go walking proudly through the airport in our new vacation apparel.

First let’s deal with the winter white. (No, I am not talking about the color of your sweater!)  Self tanners have come a long way in recent years but it is a process to get the results you want.  Start by choosing the right product and plan a couple of weeks before you leave to start your self-tanning process.  To choose the right product, it is important to choose the right color. Many companies make self-tanners in several different shades.  If you have a very fair complexion, choose a light colored self tanner but also purchase a medium shade for later.  If you are medium complexion, choose a medium shade, etc.

The next step is to prepare your skin so you get a nice even application that will result in even color.  Exfoliate your skin two to three days in a row before you apply the self tanner.  I really like using the Amway Body Blends Spa Creations Body Scrub.  This is a great exfoliator that happens to contain organic ingredients and is Paraben and Sulfate-free.   After exfoliating, moisturize your skin with Amway Body Blends Spa Creations Body Butter.  This will lock in moisture and help give you a smooth application of your self- tanner.

When applying the self tanner, don’t try to do everything all at once — you get the best results by applying layers and follow the product application instructions.   Remember it is alright to apply multiple coats in one day as long as you wait the recommended process time.   After you have achieved the color you want, it’s a matter of maintenance.  Moisturize every day, exfoliate  and  reapply your self-tanner every other day and you will have a lovely, natural looking , safe tan for however long you choose to keep it.

Now we need to get our feet “sandal ready”.  I know pedicures are great but a little homework will help get the best benefits from your pedicure and will make it last longer.   Start by soaking your feet in a foot bath using Amway Body Blends Spa Creations Foot Bath and follow up using the Amway Body Blends Spa Creations Foot Therapy Exfoliating Scrub to help smooth out those rough spots.  Follow up with Amway Body Blends Spa Creations Foot Therapy Foot Treatments which is an intense moisturizer designed specifically for feet.  All of these products are Paraben and sulfate-free.

The only thing left is to grab that ticket, pack that bathing suit and head off to the sandy beach for your much needed winter vacation.

Color Effect

Poppy, Cobalt, Teal, Magenta, and Violet are the vibrant colors on trend for jeans, shoes, handbags, and even your makeup.  This season we all need a pop of vivid color somewhere.  Colorful makeup is not just for effect, but an important and vibrant accessory for Spring 2012.  The runways of Prada, Derek Lam, Dior, and Marc Jacob used bold beautiful color palettes to created gorgeous fresh new looks!

To translate this makeup from runway to everyday you need to focus the pop of color on just one feature.  For instances, play up the eyes and use softer neutral tones on the lips and cheeks.  Play up the lips, and use very sparse makeup on the eyes.  Another great way to get a colorful look without going overboard is to use pastel colors.  You will still get the pretty effect of color without the bold commitment.

The Violet Look

Begin by applying Eclipse Eye Colour all over the lid and into the crease.  Use the Artistry Eye Shadow Brush to press in the color on the lid.  Make a smoky look by using the Eyeliner Brush under the eye along the lash line with Eclipse creating definition and drama.  Make sure to connect the shadow in the outer corner of the eye with the lid for unification.

Use Charm Eye Colour in and slightly above the crease.  Use a back and forth motion with the Eye Shadow Brush along the crease and above, this will blend Eclipse and Charm creating a smooth polished look.

Take the Eye Contour Brush and place Starry Night under the brow for a brightening and lifting appearance.

Finish the violet look on your eyes with Black Automatic Eyeliner along the top and bottom lash line, and coat your lashes with lots of Total Mascara in black!

Apply a touch of Pink Passion Cheek Colour on the apples of your cheeks.  Then sweep 3D Face Powder in Shimmer Pink over the cheek bones, forehead, and chin for a glowing radiant look to your skin.

For your pretty pout, use Artistry Sheer Coverage Gloss in Precious Pink for a touch of cool shimmer and shine.

Emerald Eyes

First, take Eden Eye Colour and apply it all over the lid.

Then, apply Rainforest Eye Colour to the outer half of the lid as well as into the crease.  Use the back and forth motion going up and over the crease with the Eye Shadow Brush, repeat this a few times for a more intense look.  Take the Eye Liner Brush to sweep Rainforest under the bottom lashes to create even more definition.

Use Silk Eye Colour under the brow to illuminate the look.  Utilizing a lighter color under the brow creates a lifting effect to the eyes; it also makes the eyes appear more complete and defined.

Complete the eye by applying Black Shimmer Automatic Eye Liner around the entire eye.  Place several coats of Total Mascara on the top and bottom lashes for a fullness and drama.

Place on Rosewood Cheek Colour across the cheeks for slight definition.  Use 3D Face Powder in Shimmer Coral all over your face for a radiant glow.

For your lips use Artistry Sheer Coverage Gloss in Dazzling Coral for sparkle, definition and shine.

Vogue Lips

The focus is on the lips so be bold and bright with Artistry Lip Colour in Beaute.  Place directly on the lips and press lips together.  Take Spiced Wine Automatic Lip Liner and trace the outer edge of your lips for definition.  To create more fullness in your lips draw slightly on the outer edge of your lip line.

Pop a touch of Artistry Full Coverage Lip Gloss in Ruby Red on the bottom center of your lips for a luminous sheen.

Sweep Bone or Silk Eye Colour with the Eye Contour Brush from lash to brow over your eyes.  Put Black Automatic Eye Liner across the top of your lash line and finish lashes with a few coats of Total Mascara.

Place a slight glow to the cheeks with a light dusting of Cache Cheek Colour on the along your cheek bones, and complete your vogue look with Shimmer Pink 3D Powder over cheeks, forehead and chin.

Fresh faced and looking pretty with color!  These looks create the vibrant touches of color that are fun, youthful and have you looking like you’ve just stepped off the runway!
