Earth tones are a significant influence in makeup, clothes and accessories for spring 2012 style. Natural textiles of leather, wood, feathers and metal are major components in belts, shoes and handbags. Soft neutral-color palettes of gray, peach, blush, cream and nude from Donna Karan and Michael Kors, for example, take on a modern chic influence in fashion. Makeup paired with this organic style-approach is fresh and pretty – a no-fuss look that radiates and glows.
For a fresh modern take on the natural look, we always want to make sure our skin is looking its best. Use Artistry essentials or Time Defiance 3-step skincare systems morning and night to maintain healthy skin. Try Artistry Intensive Skincare Renewing Peel to unveil fresh glowing skin 1-2 times per week. Lastly use an ArtistryEye Crèmes to hydrate under and around the eye area day and night.
Your face should now look clean and bright. Apply Artistry essentials Concealer under the eye to hide dark circles, lift the eye and cover any imperfections. Next use Artistry Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 over the face for sheer light-weight coverage. Tinted Moisturizer evens out the skin without looking like makeup, while adding sun protection and a natural glow to the skin.
Eye makeup this season will be smoky, subtle, and pure. Begin by using a wash of FusionEye Colour all over the lid and blended into the crease of the eye. Then take Bone Eye Colour and place it under the entire brow to highlight and add definition to the brows. Apply Rich Eye Colour with essentials Eye Liner Brush as close as you can to the lash line on the top and bottom of the eye giving it a soft smoky defined look. Finish the eyes with only one or two coats of Artistry essentials Mascara. You want the lashes to appear feathery and soft.
Cheeks should have a soft contoured appearance with just a slight stroke of Rosewood or Sun Kissed Cheek Colour. Dust very lightly along the cheek bone to just add a little definition. Follow by applying 3-D Face Powder to the cheek bones in Shimmer Coral for touch of sheen and radiance.
Stain lips with a touch of Subdued Lip Colour for a nude look. Finish the lips by using Light up Lip Gloss in Champagne to the center of the lips for added shine.
Hair should look very natural down with soft waves or placed in a tousled bun for windswept easy going style.
This spring get back to nature in style with earthy influences sure to make a statement where ever you go!
Fall is here and winter is fast approaching. Even in the most tropical climates, we all go through a time of year that we have dryer, cooler air around us and with that seasonal change, our skin experiences changes also. These changes can trigger a need to change up your skincare as well as some adjustment to your makeup.
When the air is warm and humid, we go to light weight skincare and foundation that is more comfortable during these seasons. Then the season changes and almost overnight, our skin isn’t feeling as supple as it did the day before and our foundation seems to just sit in the surface and that natural glow we are trying to get, goes away. These are all signals that we need to adjust our skincare products and routine to make up for that lack of moisture in the air.
Here are some suggestions that will make a difference and will bring your skin back to that same condition we loved in the warmer months.
Use the Artistry Essentials Hydrating Cleanser and remove with a tissue instead of rinsing it off. If you feel a need to use water to remove the cleanser, use only warm or tepid temperature water. Never use hot water as that really promotes dry skin. The same is true when showering, only use tepid temperature water. Hot water will only make your skin much dryer and uncomfortable.
To treat areas of dryness or patches of dryness, use an essential oil product that is made up of natural oils such as Artistry Essentials Moisture Plus. This type of product is also good for areas like cuticles, elbows and feet, anywhere you experience extra dryness. This product is great even on oily skin types.
All Skin Types:
Exfoliation is even more important in the dryer months. I love an easy, quick exfoliator that is the type that is a peel such as the Artistry Intensive Skincare Renewing Peel because it does not cause the skin to turn red and over stimulate the skin but still is effective.
Foundation:
If your skincare routine is working, you may not have to adjust your foundation but many times I like a fuller coverage foundation in the cooler, dry months. You may want to switch from a tinted moisturizer to a foundation that is also moisturizing such as the Artistry Hydrating foundation or the Artistry Time Defiance Firming Crème Foundation, which contains anti aging ingredients that deliver more moisture into the skin.
Eye Cream:
The eye area is probably the most noticeable area that the effects of less humid weather show the most. For day time, I like an eye cream that I can carry with me and can be applied over your makeup as well and under. I carry the Artistry Essentials Replenishing Eye Cream with me wherever I go. It’s packaged in a portable tube and is like a big drink of water for your under eye area that can be applied anytime either under or on top of your eye makeup without disturbing it.
If your skin is showing signs of dryness, flaking, red or feels tight, it is signaling that it needs a little help from you so I hope these tips will help you keep your skin glowing and beautiful all year round.
Not everyone looks good in the same color makeup. The key to the perfectly polished look is know what colors work best for your style and your skin tone, and avoid applying too much or too little makeup. Playing up your most flattering feature will make it entirely possible for you to accomplish your best look, and a beautiful finished face.
The key is to focus on your favorite feature and play it up. The other features while still polished and pretty need to be more understated. Choosing one focal point draws the eye to that area, and creates drama and definition where you want it.
Fair or light skin toned beauties look best in soft sheer neutral colors. Eyes can be rimmed with grays, medium browns, and blue shades. Cheeks are perfectly glowing in soft pink or peach. Choosing lipstick or gloss is easy if you choose one closest to your natural lip tone. If you’re going for a bolder lip shade, choose one that complements your lip a few shades darker.
Medium skin tones look great in many color families. Earthy warm tones as well as cool jewel plum shades play up the eyes, lips and cheeks.
Dark and olive skin tones can have a lot of fun with color. Smokey charcoal grays and deep golden bronze hues are great to play up the eyes. Black mascara is a must on the lashes. Cheeks glow with plum and chestnut shades, and blackberry and red create a kissable lip.
Now here are some flexible rules on how to play up your favorite feature while creating a perfect look.
Rule #1:
Makeup only looks as good as the skin beneath it, so use your Artistry Skin Care faithfully day and night.
Rule#2
Using the correct shade and formula of Artistry Foundation and Concealer is the key to beautiful makeup. Artistry Face Tint should be part of every one’s makeup wardrobe.
Rule #3
If you are playing up you’re gorgeous eyes, the cheeks and lip need to be more understated. Gloss on a bare lip is the perfect complement to dramatic eyes.
Rule #4
If you are playing up your lips, the eyes need to be more understated, while blush can be a touch more bold. Mascara on the lashes will give great subtle definition to a naked eye.
Playing up one feature rather than all or none or of them gives your face focus, and creates a beautiful polished look you’ll love!
On a recent trip to my favorite shopping site, I noticed the modern take on 70’s bohemian tribal style is still very present in fashion. Everything has texture or is patterned; earth toned in color, and has a more flowing silhouette. This organic style was brought to the fore front of fashion by stars like Kate Hudson and Sienna Miller a few years back, but is still a very strong trend and making stores like Anthropologie and Urban Outfitter very popular chain boutiques.
It took me back to my mother’s closet in the 1970’s; Muslin tops and dresses embroidered with flowers along the neckline, wooden or cork wedge sandals, jeans or cut-off shorts, and colorful beaded necklaces in every length. It also reminded me of her makeup as well. Long sun-kissed hair framed her dewy bronzed skin and it looked as if she was only wearing gloss on her lips. I knew by watching her get ready, it took more than just lip gloss to achieve her natural look.
Modern Boho makeup is all about perfecting the skin; it is a look with very natural tones and meant to look organic and effortless. The trick is to wear makeup, but look like you’re naturally polished and fresh faced!
Always use Artistry essentials or Time Defiance Skincare morning and night. Makeup only looks as good as the skin beneath it. Great skincare is the key to great skin.
Use Artistry essentials Concealer and your favorite Artistry Foundation to perfect the skin. Concealer under the eyes has an instant brightening and lifting effect to the eyes, also put concealer on any imperfections you need to cover. Place your foundation on skin to even the tone and texture. You don’t need foundation all over your skin; put it only where you need coverage. Achieving the look of an even glowing complexion is the best canvas for beautiful looking makeup.
Eyes are very minimal with this look. Choose Artistry Eye Colour in Bone or Silk and sweep over the eye from lash to brow. Coat the lashes with black mascara to pop your eyes.
Create a glow to the skin with Artistry 3D face powder. Put it along the cheek bones, bridge of the nose, and forehead to illuminate your skin, and enhance your skin’s radiance.
For the final touch on your lips, use Artistry essentials lip shine in your favorite shade to give the last boost of glimmer to your mouth.
Achieving the Boho Chic should be effortless! Keeping it simple and making your skin flawless is the focus. Everyone will say how pretty and perfected you look, and wonder if you’re even wearing makeup!
As I look outside today and see the blue gray skies, it reminds me that summer is limited and fall is just around the corner. The fall looks this year are glamorous, chic and decade inspired; meaning the best from every decade. I myself just purchased a beautiful peacock blue suede Hobo Bag, kind of a flash back to the 80’s but modernized with chunky gold chains and leather straps. I can’t wait to use it along with a great pair of stacked heels.

The color blue is all over the fashion industry right now. It is bold and beautiful. Whether you choose it for your home or personal fashion, you can’t go wrong.
Your skin care and cosmetics are part of your wardrobe as well. What is your favorite piece that you can’t live without? Mine happens to be the Artistry Balancing Foundation. I can’t ever go wrong with it. My skin care system does need to change like everyone else’s according to the seasons; especially if you want the perfect
finish.
With that being said, I can’t wait to update my cosmetic wardrobe, and one of my first choices will be the Artistry Bloom in Colour Eye Compact in Refresh. This compact is so fun and can be worn by everyone. Artistry Eye Colour in Glacier, Capri and Steel are also great choices.
You can get a casual look with Artistry matte ivory shadow all over the eye lid from lash line to under brow bone, then apply the middle color to lid and blend. Next add your black eyeliner tight on your lash line a couple coats of Artistry Essentials Mascara and you’re done!
If you’re looking for a more glam look you can use three colors starting with the lightest, layering with the medium, then the darkest into your crease. Always be sure you’re blending. Finish with black liner and again with two coats of Artistry essentials Mascara.
There are many shades of blue, which one are you going to try? Remember it’s makeup, have fun and be creative!
I learned so many things on my big day that I am just itching to pass on to future brides. All of that prep, primping, spraying, blotting and stressing… was it all really necessary? Some of it, yes! Some of it… no way.
Here are the 5 key learnings from my wedding day beauty adventure.
1) When it comes to your hair, do some serious research. I was all about budgeting, cutting costs here and there and going for a more “minimalist” approach. However, I went to a stylist that had a stellar reputation, did an incredible job while testing out different looks, and worked wonders on the day of. In fact, when I woke up the next day for our 6 a.m. flight, my hair STILL looked good!
2) Don’t use any heavy skin care treatments right beforehand. You never know how your skin will react! I used Artistry’s intensive skincare renewing peel about 4 days prior. I knew ahead of time that this product has not irritated my skin whatsoever, but I still wasn’t taking any chances since my skin is a bit on the unpredictable side. My face was glowing and smooth for makeup application!
3) Makeup. Korey isn’t a fan of a face full of makeup. I’m not either. I wanted him to see me walking down the aisle, and not some overly made up stranger! My makeup look was minimal with a soft smokey eye and a pink lip. Definitely take your time on your skin prep and foundation as that’s what you’ll really notice in pictures!
4) Upkeep. It was a HOT DAY. As soon as we all walked outside for pictures, we melted into a bridal party puddle. To touch up my makeup afterwards, I brought along concealer (to cover up any runaway eyeliner), some translucent powder (for that 90 degree “glow”), a soft pink blush to freshen up my complexion, and my lip color of choice for the day (Spring Trend Collection Bloom In Colour Lip Colour in Plum Blossom - LOVE IT!). If you are a big emotional baby like me, don’t forget to wear waterproof or water resistant mascara! This all fit easily into my small clutch. Anything extra I brought ended up unused. Less is best!
5) Lastly, with all of the months of stress and planning, don’t forget to steal a moment with your new hubby, take a deep breath, and take it all in. If you don’t, there’s a good chance that it will all be a blur and you won’t get to enjoy what all that preparation results in. This is the most beautiful part of the day.
Good luck to all of you up and coming brides – I hope your day will be as magical as mine was! Now… to figure out what to do with my time now that it’s over…
My best friend/maid of honor and I! (Can you tell it’s 90+ degrees??)
There are four basic tools that can be used to apply your foundation – a sponge, a foundation brush, an air brush or your fingers. Each will give you different coverage and texture while helping you get the finish you want.
Let’s start with the most convenient and versatile tool, your fingers. Foundations that have a cream base work well with using your fingers because the heat from your body will emulsify the foundation and give a very smooth even finish. You can also use your fingers for applying liquid foundation, giving you control in coverage and works well to apply foundation to specific areas.
The next would be a brush designed for foundation application. This can be used for cream-based or liquid foundation formulas. Foundation brushes tend to give a more sheer coverage and you can apply foundation to difficult areas that the other tools don’t do as well on. Mineral foundations use a fluffy brush for application so you can actually blend the foundation on the face by using circular blending motions. Powder brushes can be used for a sheer application of powder based foundations.
Sponges can be used for all types of foundation. When applying liquid foundation, you get control to blend foundation on the face for either the fullest or sheerest coverage depending how you use the sponge. Applying the foundation by using a sponge to blend foundation will give you sheer coverage while using the sponge in a stippling motion, liquid foundation will provide the fullest coverage.
Sponges would also be used for the application of powder foundation. For fuller coverage, you can dampen the sponge. If you use a dampened sponge for application, make sure you buff the face following the application with a brush or puff to give you a natural finish and to prevent a cakey appearance on the face.
Air brush is probably the newest tool available and the most difficult to use. It can be used by yourself but really works better when you are applying foundation on someone else. When done by a professional, this is a great technique for photographs. It can be messy when using it on yourself but if mastered, can give you a beautiful finish.
No matter what tool you use, the most important rules to get a great foundation look are to make sure your foundation matches your skin shade and use the correct formula for your skin type.
Here’s a little foundation tip: If after applying your foundation and you feel like it is a little too heavy or appears dull, rub your hands together to build up heat and gently press your hands to your face. Your foundation will have a whole new look!
What’s the perfect foundation? Is it a never ending quest or is there really a way to choose the foundation that is perfect for you? Yes there is! This foundation chart will help you choose the foundation that is formulated not only for your individual skin type but gives you the formula that provides the degree of coverage you need or desire.
A couple of things before you start making your choices. First, determine your skin type. This will give you the right finish. People with dry or more mature skin usually prefer a little dewiness or moist looking finish. People with oily skin tend to want their foundation diminish shine.
Next, determine the coverage you like. You may want to choose two different formulas. An example is the Artistry Tinted Moisturiser, it gives a beautiful sheer coverage for those who like a lighter weight foundation but could be a casual foundation for those who like a fuller coverage formula during their work week.
By using the above chart, you will be able to choose the foundation formula that is perfect for you.
If you remove the thick layer of dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, not only will your moisturizer penetrate better, but it will also make your skin look like it is glowing from within.
2. Invest in a humidifier.
While furnaces and fireplaces make your home toasty, they do suck up all the moisture out of your skin. Adding a humidifier to your bedroom will make a big difference in the dewiness of your skin. You can even take it one step further and get a travel one for your office. Your co-workers will be jealous of your brilliant complexion!
3. Winterize your skin care routine.
You have a whole different wardrobe for the winter months to protect you from the weather. Your skin needs to be treated differently too. If you use lotion to moisturize in the summer, switch to a cream in the winter.
4. Say “NO” to powder
Powder will make already lifeless skin look duller. Instead, use a tinted moisturizer or dilute your regular liquid foundation with a few drops of your moisturizer.
5. Shimmer is a girl’s best friend.
Add 3D Face Powder to catch the light. Swipe some on the upper corners of cheekbones, brow bones and the inner corners of eyes. Use Shimmer Coral if you have warm undertones and Shimmer Pink if you have fair skin.
