Throw out everything you’ve learned from the 80’s and 90’s about lip liner – the lip harshly drawn in a bold color, providing an actual “outline” for a lighter shade of lipstick on the lips is a trend of the past!
In pleasant contrast, today’s lip liner is best used by accentuating and defining the lip line, while blending seamlessly with the lip color.
ARTISTRY offers three neutral shades of lip liner, to be used in conjunction with the ARTISTRY Automatic LipLiner Pencil Holder: Pink Nude, Dusty Rose and Spiced Wine. From subtle to dramatic, each shade offers a different look, as well as options to mix and match with your lip color.
Lip liners are great multi-tasking tools as they are useful as both a base for lip color or as an adherent lip color used solo.
ARTISTRY Automatic LipLiner Pencil’s fine tip allows for lip definition, and its creamy texture will not tug or pull at the lip surface. Instead, it glides on effortlessly and prevents feathering and bleeding of darker lip color into the fine lines of the mouth.
When applying lip liner, the rule of thumb is to follow the natural line of the lip and importantly, avoid using too heavy a hand! To extend the lip line for a fuller, plumper lip, line the outer edge of the lip (or to minimize an overly full lip, line the inside of the lip line).
To achieve a nude/natural look, apply ARTISTRY’s Pink Nude LipLiner to the lip line, and then lightly fill the total lip surface with Pink Nude, giving you a lightweight but color-enhanced look that will last. Top with a lip gloss, such as ARTISTRY Sheer Coverage Lip Gloss, and you’ve got a natural, healthy and glossy glow!
Remember, creamy lip color (lipsticks and glosses) may wear off from eating, drinking and talking, but lip liner has true staying-power. By using a lip liner on the surface of your lips before your lip color, you’ve given your lips a strong color base that will remain, even after your lip color has worn off.
So line those lips, fill in with lip liner as a base, top with a quick coat of lipstick/gloss and see for yourself!
Earth tones are a significant influence in makeup, clothes and accessories for spring 2012 style. Natural textiles of leather, wood, feathers and metal are major components in belts, shoes and handbags. Soft neutral-color palettes of gray, peach, blush, cream and nude from Donna Karan and Michael Kors, for example, take on a modern chic influence in fashion. Makeup paired with this organic style-approach is fresh and pretty – a no-fuss look that radiates and glows.
For a fresh modern take on the natural look, we always want to make sure our skin is looking its best. Use Artistry essentials or Time Defiance 3-step skincare systems morning and night to maintain healthy skin. Try Artistry Intensive Skincare Renewing Peel to unveil fresh glowing skin 1-2 times per week. Lastly use an ArtistryEye Crèmes to hydrate under and around the eye area day and night.
Your face should now look clean and bright. Apply Artistry essentials Concealer under the eye to hide dark circles, lift the eye and cover any imperfections. Next use Artistry Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 over the face for sheer light-weight coverage. Tinted Moisturizer evens out the skin without looking like makeup, while adding sun protection and a natural glow to the skin.
Eye makeup this season will be smoky, subtle, and pure. Begin by using a wash of FusionEye Colour all over the lid and blended into the crease of the eye. Then take Bone Eye Colour and place it under the entire brow to highlight and add definition to the brows. Apply Rich Eye Colour with essentials Eye Liner Brush as close as you can to the lash line on the top and bottom of the eye giving it a soft smoky defined look. Finish the eyes with only one or two coats of Artistry essentials Mascara. You want the lashes to appear feathery and soft.
Cheeks should have a soft contoured appearance with just a slight stroke of Rosewood or Sun Kissed Cheek Colour. Dust very lightly along the cheek bone to just add a little definition. Follow by applying 3-D Face Powder to the cheek bones in Shimmer Coral for touch of sheen and radiance.
Stain lips with a touch of Subdued Lip Colour for a nude look. Finish the lips by using Light up Lip Gloss in Champagne to the center of the lips for added shine.
Hair should look very natural down with soft waves or placed in a tousled bun for windswept easy going style.
This spring get back to nature in style with earthy influences sure to make a statement where ever you go!
With the holiday season officially upon us we are feeling the pressures and stresses that the come along with the hustle and bustle of this time of year. Each day we awake to a countdown of the actual days remaining in the season, reminding us of how little time we have to fulfill every obligation. These pressures and constant worry can put a toll on you and your skin.
Prevent this before it happens by staying ahead of the game and taking a little extra time to pamper yourself and keep your skin healthy! With a little added effort, you will be glowing and radiant looking your very best for every holiday occasion.
Get your beauty sleep. Sleep one of the best ways you can rejuvenate and repair your mind, body, and soul. A well deserved 8 hours every night will keep you going strong and ready for the hectic days ahead.
Drink plenty of Perfect Water. Especially in the colder winter environments, moisture is depleted from the air inside and outside. Our thirsty skin and bodies needs lots of water to maintain good health. Try to stay away from too many caffeinated drinks and spirits, which can dehydrate you as well.
Use the correct Artistry moisturizer for your skin morning and night. During the day make sure the moisturizer you are using keeps your skin plump, glowing, and hydrated throughout the entire day. If you are noticing dry or tightness on your skin, it’s time to step up your moisturizer with more hydration. For instances, let’s say you are a combination skin type and use Artistry Time Defiance Day Lotion SPF 15. Since the weather changes and colder temps you have notice a bit of tightness in your cheek area, you might need to change to Artistry Crème LuXury or Time Defiance Day Protective Crème SPF 15 to maintain moisture and radiance in your skin for the entire day.
Always use Artistry Eye Crème. Artistry Replenishing Eye Crème is great for puffiness and dark circles, when you don’t get your beauty rest. Artistry Time Defiance Lifting Eye Crème hydrates and reduces the appearance of fine lines due to dryness and dehydration. Artistry LuXury Crème LuXury Eye will do it all and more; this extraordinary formula transforms and reenergizes the eye 360 degrees around the entire eye.
Artistry LuXury Crème LuXury Eye
Remember to pamper your lips. Keep them well hydrated and protected with Artistry Sheer Lip Colour with SPF 15. Formulated with vitamins A, E, and C, this smooth hydrating lip sheer will keep your lips conditioned and soft through cold winter months.
Get a radiant glow and look your best with Artistry Intensive Skincare Renewing Peel. Your skin will become smoother, look restored, and feel softer instantly. I recommend using it twice a week for optimum results. This amazing peel turns over cell layers and reveals new fresh skin underneath.
Giving yourself and your skin a little added attention will pay off with radiant results! Just remember to take the time to enjoy yourself, the people special in your life, and the moments that make the holiday season special.
It is the time of year that we have many occasions that include gift giving. It is a time to say thank you, I think of you, I appreciate all you do, teacher’s gifts, Club gifts, along with the holiday hostess gifts, etc.
We all have ideas for gifts for family and loved ones but what about the others. You want the gift to be thoughtful and something the person receiving the gift can enjoy but let’s face it, it’s hard to give a gift that is both meaningful and useful on a budget. You can give the usual scented candle, Truffles or boxes of stationary or you can look at the everyday things that you yourself enjoy.
Here is my list of ideas that might help you with these hard to find but useful gifts.
This is a no brainer. Everyone would love one of these lip glosses. It comes in great colors and is perfect for the women on the go. You can use it anywhere because it has its own mirror attached to the side of the gloss tube and when you open it, it lights up. You can apply your gloss anywhere, even in the dark.
Eye shadow and eye liner duos
I love to pair up one of the new Artistry eye shadow trios in the “Lavish in Cashmere” collection with a new eye liner in one of 5 colors from the new Artistry Automatic Pencil Refill and Holder. What a great gift for the person in your life that enjoys wearing eye makeup. It’s trendy color and packaged beautifully.
Eye Makeup Remover and a new Mascara
I love to open a new tube of mascara. I think it makes for a great day. Pair that up with a great way to remove it at night and what could be better. Most women use mascara and would also appreciate the remover to go with it. It really beats a scented candle.
The new blushes in the Artistry “Lavish in Cashmere” collection are so gorgeous and even the women that only likes a little makeup will love. There are two colors available. Soft Pink that has a little gold shimmer and Soft Rose that has a little silver shimmer. Never too much but gives the skin a little glow that makes the skin look healthy but not over done. Pair that up with one of the new Artistry Sheer Coverage Lip Glosses and you have a real winner.
Makeup Brushes
The new Artistry Lavish Brush set is perfect for the person on the go. You have three great brushes, an Eye Shadow, Blush and Eyeliner brush in their own case that is ready for travel. The case even has a magnetic closure that protects the brushes while you are traveling.
Skincare
Give a great eye cream or skincare system that suits the recipient’s skin type. My favorite to give is the Artistry Essential Replenishing Eye Cream. It comes in a tube so it’s portable, it can be used throughout the day, even over your makeup and everyone can use it.
These are just a few of the ideas you can get by just using a little imagination and a good makeup and skincare catalog like the one available from Artistry or shop Amway.com/artistry (It’s called shopping in you slippers, what could be better then that!). Happy holiday giving!
There is nothing worse than getting stuck in a rut, or having one of those days when you’re not feeling your absolute best. Say goodbye to those lackluster days, and use these quick fixes to brighten your day and give your beauty a boost!
Exfoliate your face with Artistry intensive skincare renewing peel, than follow with Artistry Crème LuXury for the ultimate indulgence for your skin. It is one of the quickest beauty fixes that you will instantly notice. Your glowing radiant skin will make you look refreshed and alive.
Paint your fingers and toes in a new colorful shade. Blue, green, and purple hues are all the rage now. Pick a shade that suits your style, but go a little darker or brighter for a change. Polished finger tips not only look great, but they make your look complete.
Buy a new lipstick shade. Go for something you don’t normally wear. Be bold with Artistry Lip Colour in Rouge, a bright red shade or Artistry Lip Colour in Bon Bon a flirty pink color to liven up your lips.
Choose Artistry Automatic Eye Pencil in Midnight Blue to rim your eyes. Blue is very popular in the beauty and fashion industry this season, and it makes the whites of your eyes appear even brighter.
Brush a pop of color on your cheek. It will automatically change your appearance. You will feel fresh, modern, and youthful. I love the new Cashmere Cheek Colour in Soft Pink to highlight your cheeks and give your face a beautiful glow.
Lastly, a smile is one way to make a dull dreary day less noticeable. Your smile doesn’t cost a thing, and is the one thing you have that looks perfect with anything you have on!!!
The smell of autumn is in the air. We are waking up to crisp cool mornings; warm sultry colored leaves, and craving something apple or pumpkin flavored to eat. We find ourselves reaching for an extra layer of clothing and looking for a new color in our makeup bags to add drama and depth to our typical everyday look.
Fall fashion has a dramatic vibe. It’s all about structured fitted silhouettes with feminine flowy accents. Textured jackets, capes, and sweaters are paired with feminine sheer blouses. Fitted denim jeans or leggings are tucked into cowboy inspired boots. Handbags are embellished with heavy hardware and studs, the shape, color, and texture vary. You will see everything from animal prints, black and brown patented leather, and vibrant bold color statements in handbags.
Makeup colors and looks for fall are smokey, smoldering, and defined. Eyes are defined by dramatic liner, cheeks have a rich warm definition, and lips are deep with crimson and Bordeaux tones.
With all this change going on in fashion, it is hard to decide what to buy to update your style. By implementing three key trend pieces as well as three cosmetic items, it will take you into fall and modernize the clothes and beauty products already existing in your wardrobe and makeup bag.
Fashion Must Haves
Something animal inspired: This can be a fur vest, animal printed belt or shoes, scarf, or a handbag is a good option. Animal prints are worn best paired with solid colors, and can be very casual for everyday. It’s a very fun flirty statement piece. Don’t take yourself too seriously, have fun with it!
Black leather or lace: It sounds a bit intimidating and intense, but have no fear it’s all about making it your own style. I love the look of a leather jacket over a pretty feminine floral dress or shirt. Wear a lace top under a comfy cardigan with leggings or trousers. The softness of floral fabrics, sweaters, and classic pieces with leather and lace will balance the look, making this trend wearable for everyone.
A bold color statement piece: You can be conservative and choose a scarf, belt, or watch in bright yellow or teal green, or be adventurous and choose a coat, purse, or jeans in bright blue or red. It just says your on trend and gives your wardrobe a colorful boost!
Beauty Must Haves
Defined eyeliner: Play up those gorgeous eyes with thicker bold liner along the top lash. New Artistry Automatic Eyeliner Pencil in Ebony and Shimmer Black are the perfect choices. It will pop your eye color and make your eyes appear more open not to mention, it lasts all day.
Strong Cheeks: Everything is just a bit more intense this season, so go a little further with your color choice with blush. I love Artistry Lavish in Cashmere Cheek Color in Soft Rose and Soft Pink. They add a perfect color and glow to the skin. They are amazing!!!!!
Lips: Your pretty pout is the most impacting beauty focus for fall. Choose something rich and bold with your lip color. I love Artistry Lip Colour in Beaute, Stunning, and Rouge. These colours will work on anyone. It’s all about making a statement, if you’d like more drama add Artistry Sheer Coverage Lip Gloss in Blackberry for the perfect fall look.
I just got back recently from Fashion Week in New York City and there were two things that jumped out at me. The first was all the great shoes! Everyone had fabulous shoes! The second was red lips. Seeing that this is a blog about makeup and not shoes, let’s talk about doing red lips.
The first step is to choose a perfect red for you. There are blue reds, such as wines, and burgundy colors, warm (yellow) reds such as brick reds and Scarlett that is true red. In an earlier blog, I wrote about how to choose the correct lip color by applying the lip color and then looking at your eyes. If your eyes look bright and awake, that is a great color for you. If your eyes look tired, you need to choose a color from a different undertone in the lip color.
Next, you want to choose the finish of the lip color. Do you want a matte (dull) finish, shiny finish or really glossy look? Just remember that all finishes will need to be reapplied but the glossier finishes will have to be reapplied more often so if you are looking for longer wearing color, choose a matte finish.
Once you have decided on the color and finish, you need to get a lip liner that matches the lip color exactly. To get more wearability, apply the lip liner over the entire lip before you apply the actual color. This will not only help the color wear longer, it will help prevent the color from “running”.
If you are not sure you can wear red lips, take heart, almost everyone looks good in some kind of red. Now that you know how to choose the color for you and the finish, let’s get you comfortable with red lips. The formula is important. For a more sheer color, choose a gloss or sheer formula and for fuller coverage, choose a popular formula in a regular lip stick. Take a look at several Artistry Lip Colours in Rouge, or Stunning. A great new gloss color just introduced is the Artistry Lip Gloss in Ruby Red. I found this color looked good on almost everybody. Artistry Lavish in Cashmere Lip Colour in the new Pomegranate is a sheer finish for the person who is more comfortable in a less intense coverage.
Whatever color and intensity you choose, enjoy red, it is a great fall (winter, spring or summer) color that will work for you!
There are many products that come and go in my beauty bag. ARTISTRY® Light Up Lip Gloss is not one of them. It is now one of my beauty staples. I’m in love with the look, its minty scent, the feel, and the handy case!
This stand out lip gloss comes in three versatile shades: Champagne a nude shimmer, Glitz a pinky coral shimmer (my favorite), and Passion a sheer auburn red. It gives gorgeous sparkling color without the feel of gritty shimmer. The minty candy like scent is soothing, yet wakes up your pout. The formula makes your lips feel softer, moisturized, and smoother. It brings a luscious change to the way your lips appear, and Artistry Light Up Lip Gloss puts a modern fresh pop of color on the lips. To make it even better the packaging comes with a LED light and a side mirror built it, for anytime anywhere application! It will be the conversation starter wherever you apply it.
This hydrating formula can be worn alone or layered on top of your favorite lip color. Its light catching shimmer gives the look of complete perfection to your lips. You will never suffer from tacky or sticky lips, and doesn’t ever get clumpy. It is a must-have in all three beautiful wearable shades, and don’t forget you need one for your purse, in your car, and definitely at work! You will soon be like me, and not be able to live without it!
The answer is, yes you can! The trick to using the bright corals and pinks is to bring them into your comfort level. Take a few minutes to get this right and you will be hooked on summer brights.
First you need to choose the right shade and the best place to start is nail polish. You heard me right, nail polish. Try several colors like bright pink, coral and orange and see which one looks the best with your skin tone. Don’t panic because these nail colors will look great on your toes with those kickin’ strappy sandals. Don’t forget the melon colors because they look good on almost everyone. There are also some mauve tones that can be in the bright category.
Next you need to decide how intense the color can be and still be comfortable for you to wear. Let’s face it, the right bright color looks good on everyone, it is just a matter of being out of our comfort zone. No one wants to feel like their lips are the first thing that enters a room. You may want to adjust the intensity by first applying a clear gloss before you apply the lip color. This trick washes out the color so it almost becomes a blush for the lips, depending how much gloss you use. If you want to lessen the intensity of the lip color a small amount, reverse the application to applying the lip color first and gloss second. This will leave the color a little more opaque and brighter.
If this is a little too much work, try all of the great new formulas in lip color. Take a look at Artistry’s Bloom in Colour Collection lip colors in Apricot Blossom or Plum Blossom. These are great examples of bright colors that are in a sheer formula anyone can wear and feel comfortable. Formulas like these wear longer than a gloss but are sheer and easy to use.
Lip Gloss is another answer. You can wear them really sheer or bold depending on your mood.
Another trick is to apply the lip color with your finger by patting the color on your lips. This gives you a great stained look that is very subtle but noticeably there.
Experiment with these techniques and find the one that suits your style. Don’t cheat yourself out of the bright tropical colors of summertime because we all know it is the best time to not take ourselves so seriously and things that are not quite the right fashion statement for the other three seasons is okay in summer!
It’s that time again, ladies and gents. Time to put away all of your winter skin care and cosmetics and dust off your best summer face!
I’m sure if you’ve ever tried it before, you know that your favorite heavy creams, lotions and winter hues just don’t work come 75 degree weather with humidity. Here’s some easy ways to transition your routines without wreaking havoc on your between-seasons skin!
1. We’ll tell you a million times – make sure you apply suncreen! If you will be in the sun, make sure to keep applying throughout the day.
2. Don’t stop moisturizing when the temp goes up! Simply lighten up your lotion. Most people don’t need a heavy creme unless they have extra dry skin.
3. Exfoliation doesn’t just remove dry skin, it helps bring out a brighter more luminous complexion! Who doesn’t want that come summer?!
4. Lighten up the lips! Summery, shimmery pink and coral lips will warm up your face instantly!
5. Bring a brave new color into your world. Have you been using warm browns and neutrals on your eyes? Try a warm pink instead!
6. Make the switch to a tinted moisturiser from your typical heavier foundation. This will let your skin breath and won’t melt on the long, humid days!
7. Try skipping the mascara and liner on your lower lashes and lashline. Not only will it help open up your eyes, you won’t have to worry about it traveling south.
8. Apply a light coral blush and skip the deeper plums and reddish tones. This will give you a sun-kissed look without the sun’s help!
