Throw out everything you’ve learned from the 80’s and 90’s about lip liner – the lip harshly drawn in a bold color, providing an actual “outline” for a lighter shade of lipstick on the lips is a trend of the past!
In pleasant contrast, today’s lip liner is best used by accentuating and defining the lip line, while blending seamlessly with the lip color.
ARTISTRY offers three neutral shades of lip liner, to be used in conjunction with the ARTISTRY Automatic LipLiner Pencil Holder: Pink Nude, Dusty Rose and Spiced Wine. From subtle to dramatic, each shade offers a different look, as well as options to mix and match with your lip color.
Lip liners are great multi-tasking tools as they are useful as both a base for lip color or as an adherent lip color used solo.
ARTISTRY Automatic LipLiner Pencil’s fine tip allows for lip definition, and its creamy texture will not tug or pull at the lip surface. Instead, it glides on effortlessly and prevents feathering and bleeding of darker lip color into the fine lines of the mouth.
When applying lip liner, the rule of thumb is to follow the natural line of the lip and importantly, avoid using too heavy a hand! To extend the lip line for a fuller, plumper lip, line the outer edge of the lip (or to minimize an overly full lip, line the inside of the lip line).
To achieve a nude/natural look, apply ARTISTRY’s Pink Nude LipLiner to the lip line, and then lightly fill the total lip surface with Pink Nude, giving you a lightweight but color-enhanced look that will last. Top with a lip gloss, such as ARTISTRY Sheer Coverage Lip Gloss, and you’ve got a natural, healthy and glossy glow!
Remember, creamy lip color (lipsticks and glosses) may wear off from eating, drinking and talking, but lip liner has true staying-power. By using a lip liner on the surface of your lips before your lip color, you’ve given your lips a strong color base that will remain, even after your lip color has worn off.
So line those lips, fill in with lip liner as a base, top with a quick coat of lipstick/gloss and see for yourself!
5. Stick with it! Clinical and consumer testing conducted on intensive skincare anti-wrinkle firming serum showed improvement after just two weeks of use.
Earth tones are a significant influence in makeup, clothes and accessories for spring 2012 style. Natural textiles of leather, wood, feathers and metal are major components in belts, shoes and handbags. Soft neutral-color palettes of gray, peach, blush, cream and nude from Donna Karan and Michael Kors, for example, take on a modern chic influence in fashion. Makeup paired with this organic style-approach is fresh and pretty – a no-fuss look that radiates and glows.
For a fresh modern take on the natural look, we always want to make sure our skin is looking its best. Use Artistry essentials or Time Defiance 3-step skincare systems morning and night to maintain healthy skin. Try Artistry Intensive Skincare Renewing Peel to unveil fresh glowing skin 1-2 times per week. Lastly use an ArtistryEye Crèmes to hydrate under and around the eye area day and night.
Your face should now look clean and bright. Apply Artistry essentials Concealer under the eye to hide dark circles, lift the eye and cover any imperfections. Next use Artistry Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 over the face for sheer light-weight coverage. Tinted Moisturizer evens out the skin without looking like makeup, while adding sun protection and a natural glow to the skin.
Eye makeup this season will be smoky, subtle, and pure. Begin by using a wash of FusionEye Colour all over the lid and blended into the crease of the eye. Then take Bone Eye Colour and place it under the entire brow to highlight and add definition to the brows. Apply Rich Eye Colour with essentials Eye Liner Brush as close as you can to the lash line on the top and bottom of the eye giving it a soft smoky defined look. Finish the eyes with only one or two coats of Artistry essentials Mascara. You want the lashes to appear feathery and soft.
Cheeks should have a soft contoured appearance with just a slight stroke of Rosewood or Sun Kissed Cheek Colour. Dust very lightly along the cheek bone to just add a little definition. Follow by applying 3-D Face Powder to the cheek bones in Shimmer Coral for touch of sheen and radiance.
Stain lips with a touch of Subdued Lip Colour for a nude look. Finish the lips by using Light up Lip Gloss in Champagne to the center of the lips for added shine.
Hair should look very natural down with soft waves or placed in a tousled bun for windswept easy going style.
This spring get back to nature in style with earthy influences sure to make a statement where ever you go!
If you’re a parent, ’tis the season for back to school shopping. Stores are packed with every essential you will need for your children from socks to erasers. It is actually the second biggest shopping season of the year! I’m sure you have an assorted list gearing up for that first day back. If you are preparing for back to school with your teen, among the highlighters and #2 pencils topping their list are the clothing, shoes, and makeup essentials.
If your teen is new to the beauty world, embarking on makeup for the first time can be intimidating. Makeup is a rite of passage for young women, but when she is given the proper products, and taught how to apply makeup correctly, it is an equally good experience for parents and their daughters.
Starting with proper skincare is most important. Artistry essentials skincare is basic easy and effective in three simple steps. If she begins with good skincare habits when she is young, this routine will carry on throughout her life. She will have beautiful radiant skin to show for it.
Choose Normal to Dry skincare if she has little to no shine on her t-zone, and her skin feels dry to the touch, and tight through the cheeks.
Combination to Oily skincare if she is has shine through the t-zone, pores appear larger through the nose, and the cheeks feel normal to the touch or have some shine.
Always use skincare morning and night!
Artistry essentials Makeup Kit is everything your teen will need for back to school. It has all of the essentials, comes in three natural color palettes, and is simple and easy to use.
Mineral Foundation is easy to use and natural looking. Dust lightly with brush over the skin letting the real skin shine through.
Concealer is only necessary to cover imperfections such as blemishes. Pat on blemish to cover, and only use on those days you need to.
Colour Quad contains a touch of soft color for eyes and cheeks. Apply minimal color to the eyelids and cheeks for a natural look; the trick is to be light handed. A little goes a long way to enhance natural beauty.
Lip shine gives a pretty gloss to the lips. The light touch of color is perfect for a teen.
Mascara is great for a little definition on the eyes. Use one or two coats to the top lashes only.
Makeup essentials and skincare made really easy and mistake-proof for teens. You can both be confident she’ll look and feel her best with the right products and techniques from Artistry essentials for back to school.
Let’s face it. After a long, tough day at work, there aren’t many of us that can head on out for the night looking bright eyed and bushy tailed. There are a few eye opening tricks that can help you appear as if you just awoke from an incredible and rare full 8 hours of sleep!
* Remove eye makeup that has settled and smudged throughout the day. Try a gentle remover with moisturizing and rejuvinating ingredients like chamomile.
* Pat on a little creamy concealer with your ring finger under your eyes and in the inner corners of your eyes where it tends to show dark shadows when you are tired.
* Add a touch of white eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyes. Instant eye opener!
* Curl your eyelashes! Blast your curler with about 3 seconds of heat from your blow dryer. Make sure to check that it’s not too hot to place near your eye! It’s a better idea to curl your lashes pre-mascara to avoid pulling any out, but if you don’t have time to remove your mascara from earlier, curl very gently.
* Leave mascara to the upper lashes only. Using mascara on upper and lower lashes tends to make the eyes look more closed on most women. Add an extra coat if you are looking for more drama!
Now get out there and celebrate the weekend knowing you look gorgeously refreshed!
I learned so many things on my big day that I am just itching to pass on to future brides. All of that prep, primping, spraying, blotting and stressing… was it all really necessary? Some of it, yes! Some of it… no way.
Here are the 5 key learnings from my wedding day beauty adventure.
1) When it comes to your hair, do some serious research. I was all about budgeting, cutting costs here and there and going for a more “minimalist” approach. However, I went to a stylist that had a stellar reputation, did an incredible job while testing out different looks, and worked wonders on the day of. In fact, when I woke up the next day for our 6 a.m. flight, my hair STILL looked good!
2) Don’t use any heavy skin care treatments right beforehand. You never know how your skin will react! I used Artistry’s intensive skincare renewing peel about 4 days prior. I knew ahead of time that this product has not irritated my skin whatsoever, but I still wasn’t taking any chances since my skin is a bit on the unpredictable side. My face was glowing and smooth for makeup application!
3) Makeup. Korey isn’t a fan of a face full of makeup. I’m not either. I wanted him to see me walking down the aisle, and not some overly made up stranger! My makeup look was minimal with a soft smokey eye and a pink lip. Definitely take your time on your skin prep and foundation as that’s what you’ll really notice in pictures!
4) Upkeep. It was a HOT DAY. As soon as we all walked outside for pictures, we melted into a bridal party puddle. To touch up my makeup afterwards, I brought along concealer (to cover up any runaway eyeliner), some translucent powder (for that 90 degree “glow”), a soft pink blush to freshen up my complexion, and my lip color of choice for the day (Spring Trend Collection Bloom In Colour Lip Colour in Plum Blossom - LOVE IT!). If you are a big emotional baby like me, don’t forget to wear waterproof or water resistant mascara! This all fit easily into my small clutch. Anything extra I brought ended up unused. Less is best!
5) Lastly, with all of the months of stress and planning, don’t forget to steal a moment with your new hubby, take a deep breath, and take it all in. If you don’t, there’s a good chance that it will all be a blur and you won’t get to enjoy what all that preparation results in. This is the most beautiful part of the day.
Good luck to all of you up and coming brides – I hope your day will be as magical as mine was! Now… to figure out what to do with my time now that it’s over…
My best friend/maid of honor and I! (Can you tell it’s 90+ degrees??)
Summer is finally making an appearance! Unfortunately, along with the summer sun comes some pretty heavy rain and thunderstorms. Most days, tromping into work with soggy shoes is just not an option.
I have discovered a love for wellies (or galoshes or rain boots, whatever suits your fancy). I went on a welly hunt a few weeks back and finally decided on a bright red, mid-priced pair that caught my eye. What’s a better cheer up for a gloomy rainy day than a colorful pair of boots??
You can find these boots in LITERALLY every color and pattern. There are more sophisticated and sleek over-the-knee pairs, bright and sunny floral patterns, traditional Wellington’s, anything your heart desires.
Cinco de Mayo, or the “fifth of May”, is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally (primarilly in the state of Puebla) in Mexico. This is a day to celebrate the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Here in the U.S., this is a day to celebrate the culture of Americans of Mexican ancestry. It is celebrated by many, regardless of their ethnic origin! Schools hold events and present lessons on the history and there are celebrations of Mexican culture featuring music, dance and foods. What a great day to celebrate!
If you are like us here on the blogging team, you will be celebrating right along side of everyone! Why not dress for the occasion?
The colors and patterns of traditional Mexican fabrics are a perfect way to take part in the special day!
Those who knew me during my younger years would probably say that I had some similarities to a certain 80’s TV icon. For those of you who didn’t have the pleasure of growing up with the television program Punky Brewster, you should know that Punky was one of a kind.
Punky’s defining characteristic, without a doubt, was her individual sense of style. She wore what she wanted, when she wanted. Patterns were mixed, matching was no object and favorites were layered with abandon. My first style icon. Thankfully, my mom was an honest to goodness fan of both my red flannel shirt and patterned stirrup pants combo, as well as my “Cosby sweater” worn with anything (and everything) phase. Bless her heart. Have I taken this eclectic fashion sense into my adult years? I bet you know the answer to that one!
This spring 2011 season is one that Punky would be proud of. Forget minimalist – you can combine all your faves without a second thought! Watercolor top and cheetah print skirt? Throw a blue belt on top and call it a statement. Color saturated pumps, floral on floral, polka dot skirts, bold stripes and prints galore will fill your closet with a little piece of childhood and a lot of style.
Try it out – Everyone needs to find their inner Punky!
Who knew Country style would be all the rage this spring? Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a big love for country music and culture. I have watched Hope Floats more times than I can count (always, always imagining that I’m Birdee Pruitt), love to start my day with some blaring country sing-alongs, secretly (or not so secretly) want to move to Texas, and am no longer allowed to watch CMT alone because sad country music videos are the end of me. It’s been witnessed, and it’s not pretty. I just can’t get enough of the stuff!
To my surprise (and delight), western wear is up and coming for Spring. Girly, cotton dresses trimmed with lace, plaid button-down shirts and vests in a variety of materials are appearing anywhere from the runways to the sidewalks. Distressed denim will be working for both day wear and a fun night out!
(Dress: H&M, Shirt/Shorts: Forever 21)
The boots don’t necessarily have to be stored away this spring, either – they look great with a distressed pair of denim shorts or a suede mini!
(Boots: Forever 21)
Leather and feather accessories and fringe rimmed hand bags complete the looks.
(Bag: Minnetonka, Earrings: H&M)
Will you be rocking your western wear this season?
