Catch Team Nutrilite athletes Sanya Richards (Women's 400 Meters) and tentatively Liu Xiang (110 Meter Hurdles) live on Sunday, June 8 on NBC from 1 to 3 p.m. PT (4 to 6 p.m. ET )and look for the myriad ways the Nutrilite brand is represented on and around the track.

Of note…

  • Sanya, the American record holder for the 400 meter sprint, wants to be first off her block to defend her American record.
  • Even though Asafa will not be running due to a minor injury, he will be available for a "meet and greet" with fans, along with Sanya.
  • An estimated 250 IBOs will attend the event with 50 of them as VIPs with great seats and special access to Asafa and Sanya during the event, a T-shirt commemorating the event, and a complimentary 10 day supply of Double X.
  • The Prefontaine Classic is the premiere track & field meet in the United States, and the only stop in North America on the prestigious World Athletics Tour. Since 2000, it has been ranked first among all annual track & field meets outside of Europe by the IAAF, the international governing body for the sport.
  • Athletes must be ranked in the Top 50 in the world in their events to be eligible to compete in this elite track & field showcase.
  • Attendance at the meet, held each year at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, has traditionally been the largest in the United States. Each of the meets for the past ten years has seen standing-room-only sell-out crowds.

Good morning!

I just got back to the office after traveling for 2 1/2 weeks, and on my desk is the Dec. 17, 2007 issue of ESPN Magazine. If you open it up to the center, there's a new Nike ad (solid red) that says on the front, "Is this the end of running?" When you open the ad up it continues, "Or just the beginning?" Open the ad up again (It's a huge foldout ad!) and you'll see an article entitled "Next Around the World," which features emerging athlete stars from around the globe.  Looking at the pictures across the bottom you'll see that the fourth athlete pictured from the left is Nutrilite-sponsored athlete Sanya Richards.

Nutrilite-sponsored athlete Sanya Richards, American Record Holder for the 400-meter sprint, will start training again next week.

Here's a quote from Sanya's online diary:

"I will resume training next week. I always take six weeks off after my last competition so I will enjoy this next couple of days, go watch the Giants vs. Cowboys game, and then get back in the swing of things."

Nike just recently introduced its new campaign, “Quick is Deadly.” It’s an integrated marketing campaign for the Nike ZOOM footwear line, including print, broadcast, and digital advertising and PR. Nike’s story behind the footwear is that it’s designed for athletes who demand a lower and more responsive cushioning system for that quick feel. Many of Nike’s quickest athletes who are currently using the Nike ZOOM footwear in their training regimen are featured in the campaign. Football player LaDainian Tomlinson, basketball player Steve Nash, runner Lauren Fleshman and Nutrilite-sponsored Olympic sprinters Asafa Powell and Sanya Richards all appear in individual print ads developed by advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy Portland.

Asafa’s print ad is featured on the inside cover of the September 2007 issue of Runner’s World. If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to check it out! Very cool!

There are also some awesome “Quick is Deadly” videos of Asafa on YouTube. Check this one out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=9LPC-qZ6CO0

Happy Monday to y'all!

So, I started off my morning by flipping through the September 2007 issue of Track & Field News magazine. I was pleasantly surprised to find that all four of our Nutrilite-sponsored athletes are featured with photographs in this month's issue!

A little tour of the publication:

pg. 37 – Jenn Stuczynski, American-Record Holder Pole Vault. Jenn's shown in the recap from the US Track & Field Championships, where she was "the very model of efficiency, needing only a single attempt to win."

pg. 41 – Liu Xiang, World-Record Holder 110-meter Hurdles. There's a full-page photo of Liu as a part of the article "Who's Going to Osaka?"

pg. 43 – Sanya Richards, American-Record Holder 400-meter sprint. This article, "Richards Bounces Back," recaps Sanya's performance at the Paris Golden League.

pg. 44 - Liu. A really cool picture of Liu as the crowd is cheering for him at the Lausanne Grand Prix.

pg. 45 – Asafa Powell, World-Record Holder 100-meter Sprint. This article, "Powell Back on Track," recaps Asafa's gold medal performance at the Rom Golden League.

I love this mag. Especially seeings how our Nutrilite athletes are consistently featured in it.

If you don't already get it, you may want to check out www.trackandfieldnews.com. The magazine is published 12 times a year, including an "Annual Edition," which wraps up the whole year in one spot with World Rankings and Top 40 Lists. One of the sweet perks to having a subscription is the free eTrack service you also get. It includes an eTrack Newsletter, an extensive results publication which is produced more than 40 times a year (weekly during the peak season) and sends all the latest results directly to your e-mail address. During the Olympics and World Championships, special daily reports are issued. (Something worth keeping in mind as the '08 Olympics near.)

Nutrilite-sponsored athlete Sanya Richards set a season-best time in the 400-meters at the Weltklasse Golden League meet in Zurich, Switzerland today. This means that she’s still in the race for the Golden League’s million-dollar jackpot! (The million-dollar jackpot will be split among all the athletes who win their selected event in all six Golden League meets.)

In an interview after the race, Sanya said “that’s my number one goal of the season.” There are two more races to go in the Golden League, with meets in Brussels and Berlin.

Sanya won in 49.36 seconds on the new Letzigrund track, which organizers billed as “the fastest in the world.”

“I expected a fast race because I wanted to attack my personal best,” said Sanya, whose personal best is 48.70. “Entering the final straight, I didn't know they were so far behind. It was my world championships today.”

OFFICIAL GLOBAL PRESS RELEASE

Nutrilitebrand powers Sanya Richards, the fastest 400m woman in U.S. history

Nutrilite, the world’s leading brand of vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements, is the proud sponsor of elite runner Sanya Richards, the youngest woman ever – at age 20 – to break the elusive 49-second barrier at 400 meters.

Richards was named the World Female Athlete of the Year in 2006 – the same year she became the American Outdoor 400m record holder at 48.70 seconds.

In her 22 years, Richards has made an international name for herself representing the United States around the world in elite track and field events.

  • – She is a three-time U.S. Outdoor National Champion at 400m.
  • – She was a Gold Medalist in the 4×400m relay at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
  • – She is ranked Number One in the world (2006) by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) at 200m and 400m.
  • – She was undefeated at 400m in 2006.
  • – In 2005, she won the Weltklasse meet in Zurich, Switzerland, running the 400m in 48.92 seconds – 0.38 hundreds of a second faster than the world and Olympic champion at the time.

Competing everywhere from Stuttgart to Stockholm, and from Indianapolis to Austin, Sanya Richards has distinguished herself as a veteran competitor. “When people believe they can run faster, times just get faster and faster,” she says.  Truth is, she doesn’t have to say much – her feet tell the story on tracks around the world.

A 2006 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Richards holds a degree in management information systems. She lettered in basketball in high school, and graduated with a 4.0 grade point average.

“Sanya’s dedication to her sport and to winning makes her a natural for Nutrilite products,” says John Dykhouse, Global Brand Manager for Nutrilite. “We take great pride in the fact that Sanya trusts Nutrilite to insure that her nutritional requirements are met during her strenuous training schedule.”

Dykhouse adds, “Sanya is an inspiration to athletes everywhere – and to the rest of us as well. She’s managed to not only excel in athletics and academics. It’s a rare combination that is also a real motivator. We wish her continued success in the coming seasons.”

The Nutrilite brand and Sanya Richards have a lot in common: Both Nutrilite and Richards are on top of their game – and they know the dedication it takes to stay there. Based on 2006 sales, Nutrilite is the world’s leading global brand of vitamins, minerals, and dietary supplements – and has held this position for more than five years.

Nutrilite products are sold around the world, through Amway and Quixtar independent business owners.
