We have once again been recognized by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) District 6 for our high-energy music video that promotes NUTRILITE® Sports Nutrition products.
Our ”Mix It Up” video, which uses rap and humor to convey its message, won Silver ADDY® awardsfor both the video and the music. The production was recognized in early March by the local Mid-Michigan ADDY Awards with a Gold ADDY for internet commercials, another Gold ADDY for lyrics, and the Best of Show award for interactive projects.
With over 60,000 entries annually, the ADDY Awards are the world’s largest and arguably toughest advertising competition. The ADDY Awards represent the true spirit of creative excellence by recognizing all forms of advertising from media of all types, creative by all sizes and entrants of all levels from anywhere in the world
The AAF District 6is comprised of 16 local ad clubs representing approximately 5,000 members, including clubs from Chicago, Detroit, and Indianapolis, among other cities. The District 6 competition included 436 entries. “Mix It Up” now automatically advances to the National ADDY Competition later this month.
The best part of all of this? We were competing against the big agencies and brands such as Craftsman and All State. We spent less money and had no commercialization, yet have a video that is being recognized for its strength and value. As last check, we were also up to nearly 130,000 visitors, which is amazing for a video that lacked the pre-seeding budget that “viral” videos these days put up to garner big viewership early in the game.
A few months ago, I posted a blog about Nutrilite Sports Nutrition’s latest forray into the world of viral video. Last summer, we came out with our first test in the rapidly expanding marketing and advertising genre, learned some valuable lessons and launched a music video in early January.
We started with some seeding efforts targeting the sports nutrition audience and had some decent results and then – WHAM – like a left cross to the jaw, we recently hit paydirt!
In a world where very little actually goes viral without big advertising budgets and expensive pre-launch campaigns, we’re earning what we’re getting through hard work and the strength of an award winning video. Yep, you read that right – an award winning video.
In early March, Nutrilite’s “Mix it Up” won American Advertising Awards Addy Gold in the interactive web video and music categories, and won Best in Show for the video. This was at the local level here in Michigan. Those awards earned us a trip to Districts, which is where the top three from each category go to compete against hundreds of others in a multi-state area. Our area is Michigan, Indiana and Illinois, so as you can imagine, with the Chicago agencies, we had some stiff competition.
Well, I am thrilled to report that we had success against some of the cream of the crop as Districts. Mix it Up won silver in both categories, edged out for gold by a mega national brand – Craftsman – and their campaign put together by the country’s seventh largest ad agency – Young & Rubicam. Our video and music placed ahead of another renown agency – Leo Burnett and their campaign for Allstate.
This means we move on to the very prestigous National competition in San Diego, where we will go up against the best of the best from around the US. We may not place there, but for our video – done for much less than the big boys spend and without all of the pre-launch budget and hype – is the Addy’s version of March Madness’ VCU!
We’re up over 110,000 views as of this morning and growing at a rapid rate. So what can you do? Bask in the glory of our awards with us and of course be sure to Mix it Up by passing along our great video to people you know that enjoy fun, creativity, good music and of course, Nutrilite Sports Nutrition products!
We've all done it. No matter if you are a cyclist, runner, tri-athlete, or workout warrior… we have all bonked at one point or another.
What's that? Never heard the term before?
Well then, let me introduce you to a common form of vernacular among this crowd so that you too can be cool.
Bonking is synonymous with hitting the wall. As in, "Man, I was on mile three last night with another two miles to go and I bonked so hard I had to stop and walk it in."
Wikipedia says: In endurance sports, particularly cycling and running, hitting the wall or the bonk describes a condition caused by the depletion of glycogen stores in the liver and muscles, which manifests itself by precipitous fatigue and loss of energy. Milder instances can be remedied by brief rest and the ingestion of food or drinks containing carbohydrates. The condition can usually be avoided by ensuring that glycogen levels are high when the exercise begins, maintaining glycogen levels during exercise by eating or drinking carbohydrate-rich substances, or by reducing exercise intensity.
The great news is, Nutrilite has a solution to this problem. My blogging counterpart Nick Katsarelas wrote about them in April. Nutrilite Endurance Cubes can be your difference between bonking or finishing the race. That's right, the combination of B-vitamins, carbs, antioxidants, electrolytes, and a little caffeine can help make the difference in your workout. Haven't tried them? Try them today.
