Working as a member of the Health Marketing team for Amway’s Nutrilite brand has been an exciting and enriching experience.  I’ve been humbled and honored to spend time with our highly motivated IBOs (Independent Business Owners) and excited to meet our teams that drive our organic farms and product labs to deliver high-quality nutritional supplements.

Having said that, I’m embarrassed to admit that over the four years I’ve spent with Amway, I’ve struggled to completely incorporate the supplements I’m proud to represent into my personal routine.  When I joined the business supplements were never really a part of my day-to-day routine, I remember having a bottle in my cabinet, but rarely cracking the seal.  But once I had a chance to meet our experts at Nutrilite I began making healthy habits like exercise, healthy eating and supplements a priority in my life.

But deciding to make healthy habits a priority was just the first step.  While I had the best intentions, a commitment to work out each morning was a lot easier than a commitment to take my supplements as recommended (7 days per week, often 1-2+ times per day).

While there are a variety of options to help remember to take your supplements, none of them truly fit my lifestyle.  With work that requires travel and full days, and a home life that keeps me moving stationary Monday through Sunday tablet cases never really worked for me.  When I needed my supplements (Breakfast, Dinner) they always seemed to be sitting in the cabinet at home.  That’s why I’m so excited about the new Nutrilite Supplement Center.  Since I received a prototype version a few months back, I’m happy to say that I haven’t missed a single dose of my favorite Nutrilite Supplements, many of which require multiple doses (below).

The Supplement Center is designed for people who live on the go and specifically for people looking to build a healthy routine for the very first time.  For those who already have it down, the larger supplement cases available from Nutrilite may be your best option.  Want to know more about how the Supplement Center works?  I like it so much that I was proud to appear in a video to demonstrate just how it works – check it out!

Did you know that June is International Men’s Health Month?  Makes sense, right, since June is the month that we celebrate Father’s Day.

Did you know that NUTRILITE® spokesman Kurt Warner turns 40 this June? I’m pretty sure he could suit back up and lead most any NFL team to the playoffs even a few years post retirement.

Did you know that NUTRILITE now has three products that are NSF Certified for Sport? Double X, Daily and CF&V.

Well, now you know and follow along to know how Kurt maintains his optimal health and stays healthy enough to garner the constant question – “when are you coming back, Kurt?”

As I said, Kurt turns 40 this month, which, again, happens to be International Men’s Health Month. He shows no signs of slowing down and doesn’t believe you should, either, no matter what your age. As part of his partnership with NUTRILITE to educate men and their families about optimal health, Kurt put together his “Top 10 Plays for International Men’s Health Month” – tips for men of all ages, and the women who support them, who are looking to eat better and live a healthier lifestyle.

  1. 1. Eat a Rainbow-a-Day – Most Americans eat a lot of beige food, like potatoes and bread. Eight out of ten Americans, to be exact, don’t eat enough colorful fruits and veggies. We all need to do a better job of eating a rainbow a day. The Nutrilite Health Institute recommends ten servings a day from across a variety of colors.
  1. 2. Protein Comes in All Shapes and Sizes – Variety is the spice of life so you’ll not only enjoy the health benefits of branching out of your comfort zone, your taste buds will appreciate it, too. Instead of relying just on meat for our protein, my wife spices our family meals up with quinoa, beans, oats, milk, yogurt, and soy protein.
  2. 3. Carbs are Cool – Carbohydrates feed our muscles and brains. Cutting out carbs in your diet can have a negative effect on your mood, energy level, ability to build muscle and even to think. So when I’m fueling up for a workout or just trying to make it through a busy day, I eat good carbs like whole grains, fruit, leafy green veggies, and nuts.
  3. 4. Stay Connected Through Sex – When people read the book I co-wrote with my wife, “First Things First: the Rules of Being a Warner,” they’re often surprised that, as an old married Christian couple, Brenda and I discuss sex. But we’ve found that a happy, healthy sex life relieves stress and helps us stay connected. So if you aren’t feeling satisfied, talk about it. Your relationship, your family and your health will be better for it.
  4. 5. Hydration is Huge – Did you know that if you wait until you’re thirsty to drink water, you’re already experiencing signs of dehydration? So reach for water before you feel thirsty. Eight 8 oz. glasses per day is recommended. I try to have water or a rehydration drink like a NUTRILITE Sports Drink with me everywhere I go.
  5. 6. Feed Your Heart – Some foods have heart-healthy benefits, like garlic, onions and apples, which contain nutrients that help lower blood pressure while grapes and blueberries can help cholesterol levels. Grapes are easy for me to eat on the go, and blueberries are a quick addition to my cereal every morning.
  6. 7. Stay on Top of Stress – Have you ever noticed that you always get a cold when you’re life is the most stressful? Stress has a direct impact on the immune system and often leads to unhealthy choices. When I’m stressed, I tend to skimp on sleep. Spending time with friends or family, praying, practicing yoga, or playing with your pet can help you deal with stress in a healthy way.
  7. 8. Mind Games Matter – Exercise your body AND your brain. Brain-stimulating games can keep your mind in top shape and support your memory. One of my favorites is playing Scrabble on my smart phone while I’m flying or waiting somewhere (but not while my wife or kids are waiting to talk to me!)
  8. 9. Make Exercise Fun – I like to minimize time on the treadmill and instead maximize time playing with my kids and friends while I exercise. A game of pick-up basketball or an hour on the skating rink makes exercise fun.
  9. 10. Supplement Your Diet – The busier your life is, the harder it is to get all the nutrients you need in your diet. To cover all my bases, I take the NUTRILITE Perfect Pack every day. It includes a multivitamin, a concentrated fruits and vegetable supplement and an omega-3 supplement.

I hope that you’ll put these simple but great tips to use.  I know if it works for a future Hall of Famer, it has to work so count me in!
